The spread has stayed pretty wide now all week. I think MM's either haven't got any stock and don't want to hold any stock and are making a healthy profit just using the spread when fulfilling orders
If they haven't got any stock to speak of, then keeping the spread wide deters most short termers trying to buy and sell.
(who wants to buy a stock and see yourself 5-7% down on your investment before you have started, particularly with the downside risk increasing?)
If the MM's needed stock then you would have a more active SP with a much closer spread.
It does seem almost unimaginable that this whole quarter could be bereft of any positive developments based on what was said so recently, but on the other hand none of us thought we could be this far into Q4 with nothing reported.
. The SP has held up remarkably well considering the lack of news, which gives cause for hope that the rabbit (which is what it feels like now), will be pulled out of the hat.
Its quite the conundrum
The market however, not suffering from most of us having and looking for conformational bias, I think is now pricing in no positive news this Quarter (not in the SP, supply and demand will sort that out, but in the spread)
Ultimately I think if no positive news is to be released this Quarter then AS will have to release an RNS this month with an explanation to shareholders as to what is going on and why, that will obviously be absolutely key going into 2021 As we are now so close to the end of quarter, one way or the other we will get an RNS very soon.
