· Quadrise expects to complete the site trial in Morocco, conclude a Licence Agreement with Valkor, complete a HAZOP for marine bioMSAR™ use and progress tripartite discussions with MSC and a feedstock supplier during Q2 2023. Conclusion of the Valkor Licence Agreement would deliver commercial revenue in the current financial year, but further funds will be required to see each key project to commercialisation.

· A Fuel Supply Agreement with the client in Morocco, site trials in Utah and the commencement of commercial scale trials on board the MSC Leandra would then follow in H2 2023.

The marketplace wants Energy Decarbonisation our partners are leaders in that demand.

Our Moroccan client runs its production on a campaign basis so that because of earlier delays that were much publicised, the trial cannot commence until a new production campaign starts.

The earliest that could take place was ‘before the end of April’.

Of course we now hope that has started and our trial is underway?!

It’s an hour long debate, you have to register but in light of what Wartsila and MSC might be doing with de-rating engines Fit4Power etc. then I thought it worthwhile time spent.

A few snippets;
IMO CII will have genuine commercial impacts not just for owners and charterers but also for importers that have the bill of lading.
Forces collaborations between owners/charterers/importers and therefore commits fuel manufacturers, suppliers and ports to play ball.
Panel had not seen anything in the way of technical developments as yet with the existing fleet.
Catalyst for decarbonisation in shipping due to commercial impacts
Society demands is becoming the real stimulus quoting Lidl for example that will only use A or B rated ships
Drives real industry debate
Driving wedges between owners and charterers
Shipping needs to be dragged into the future, it won’t do it from within, this is much needed unavoidable action!

Others are trialing ‘Inferior products’ of which there won’t ever be sufficient supply.

Mmh? Wasn’t it MSC that asked for GreennCorridors to prove new fuels. And requested that fuel suppliers needed to follow their lead in investment in the new fuel economy?

Interestingly they are world leaders in setting standards for approving the ‘newer’ fuels with advisory papers published on methanol, LNG and drop-in Biofuels use.

I guess that read-across is permissible between class society approvals or it would be pointless choosing one over another?

One sponsor/customer in each segment, Industrial and Shipping changes all this though eh?!
Awareness as MSC and Wartsila for example are seen to come on board
Initial Investment as MSC for example fund the equipment and ships. Already have!
Technical Challenges as Wartsila testing and proof of concept/LONO are completed
Availability as bunker suppliers stock the fuel to support MSC
Environmental Concerns as the huge MSC marketing machine helps roll this out

If the original RTflex-96C retrofit container ship (last year) was owned by MSC, and if the size/design was same (RTFlex-96C only fitted to this type/size of vessel in a specific time window) then it is possible that the bulk of sea trials, for data collection re performance and efficiency, for benchmarking. Could effectively have been largely done already. Leaving a short engine-proving engineering sea trial that could be done on the loop back to EU for Leandra.

The sister ships were purchased together for more of a reason possibly than at first thought?
When did she have her last class dry dock?

The thing about discussion boards is that’s just what they are, discussions.
We are all guessing, none of us are any better informed than anyone else.
The company has the clearest view, and even they cannot get eta’s or expected timelines right.

ST acknowledged that there are three or four new greener fuel options that a company like his needs to consider.
That in two or three years we will probably see his company working with two or three of the greener fuels.
He talks about the risk factors with the newer fuels in the supply chain. Of fuel suppliers not risking making any significant commitments to the new fuels. Of shipping not making risky commitments to new ships targeting any one new fuel.
Then goes on to state that that is why all the new ships that are on order are for dual-fuel.

Availability of any one new fuel at scale is a real problem and concern and I imagine always will be.

Will they ever totally throw that switch? Not any time soon I’m betting!

There is plenty of room for MSAR, BioMSAR and a greener still CSOMSAR in this statement and in the wider shipping group-think.

I need to correct my last post MSC Sweden Vl is in fact headed to Dalian.

The schedule after leaving the Shipyard is for a port stop at Qingdao on 29th May. I guess that will be a return to service. I also assume that the 26th May shipyard ETD has factored-in sea trials. If any.
I noted that both MSC Alice container ship and Ocean Prince bulk carrier, that both left the shipyard at the weekend did not go out and return, but rather set off and joined service at Qingdao and ‘for order’ respectively.
MSC Sweden which appears to have been in the shipyard several months, did leave and return at least twice, but has now also departed for Qingdao and I assume service. I’m guessing that any sea trials required for our ship will be performed and calibrations done in-service as she returns to the Asia/N Europe loop commencing at Qingdao.

Come the end of June we should have a better idea of relative success or otherwise. Nothing will be decided in April!
Rewarding for me would be a clear pathway to commercialisation in H2 this year.

CO2 is still the enemy eh? But we know of a synthetic bio-diesel , diesel and hfo substitute fuel that reduces CO2, is cost effective and that also drastically reduces Nox.
