I get the boardroom ups and downs cause a bit of uncertainty, but I don’t get why the assets aren’t going to be in high demand as we come out of lockdown? The shares just seem incredibly cheap for what they’ve got. Perhaps one of the sceptics can explain why the business won’t bounce back as things normalise...

The only credible institution shorting here is Blackrock, and they closed from 3.6% to 3% at the end of January. The SFO ruling may come as a surprise. Potential for high volume short unwinding from the off tomorrow.

Sorry ammu, but you got it wrong. You stated that an article from 2019 was an update. Uodate means information “up to date” ie 2021 not 2019. Was it a genuine mistake or are you trying to mislead people?

There has been no meaningful dilution here over the last 10 years+. So the historic price chart - multiples above where we are - is a meaningful target if/when a recovery is priced in. So whether you got in at 150p, 130p, 110p - who cares? In any recovery scenario all of those entry prices are going to look great. Perceptions can change quickly :)

Thanks miles. Great post, and I agree, a fine is likely. One thing I’d add - it may not be a one off fine that requires immediate payment, but paid back over a number of years, so they don’t necessarily need all the liquidity up front to pay it off. This was the experience with Indivior and the DoJ - pay back over 7 years. Key recovery driver for Indivior prior to settlement was the appearance of specialist litigation funds which hoovered up stock at the lows. May or may not happen here, but I think a base case penalty of $300-400m is more than priced in - not to say sentiment can’t take it lower.

I really wouldn’t buy this on the back of confidence there will be no substantial fine, but to each their own. GLA

Come on E-Al... as a holder I wished the likelihood of a fine was small, but I very much suspect otherwise. The point is, is it priced in .... “The SFO’s investigation into the activities of Petrofac, its officers, employees and agents for suspected bribery, corruption and money laundering continues” said the SFO last Thursday.
