Before launch I was actually expecting a subscription model along side the purchasing but that was before we finally knew how much content was being rolled out. As they are rolling out their current library staggered Its obvious they couldn’t do a subscription model right now due to content volume however I suspect in future once they have caught up releasing content it may be possible. Plenty of of oportunity to develop the current business model as their content library grows. One step at a time this content roll out is going to be lengthy.
I hold with the exact same approach and don't bother too much with the daily share price, nothing wrong with debating share price daily though if that's what some want to do they are free to do so.
Exactly, it has hardly started let alone dead. Just people panicking, not myself personally but understandable for others though considering the share price is going down and many will be at a loss. The long term potential and feature/platforms yet to be launched are the things that keep me positive currently. Maybe if these don't develop well over the next couple years I will change my tune but for now its sit and hold.
Offical resolution of the GO is 2560x1440 (2K). 4K 360 videos are supported by the GO but we have to remember the video is stretched 360 degrees so anything less than 4K it starts to look crap. The go does not support anything much higher than 4K 360 ag the moment: source: https://twitter.com/id_aa_carmack/status/993895440071315456?s=21 Having said that the higher Melody record the better as the footage can then be Shown to the maxmimum each device will support and what your internet is capable of giving every user the best experience.
Key points to take from this article on the topic of visual quality, they intend on recording in 8k and 12k!!!! This will dematically improve the quality compared to what has currently been recorded!!!!
The quality could be higher in terms of resolution and that is a fact. Plenty of 360/180 3D stereoscopic videos out there that are higher quality. It doesn’t help that the videos cannot be downloaded in their highest quality to be viewed offline. This means they always have to be streamed and that is also going to impact the quality should you not have High download speeds. I’m sure their quality will only ever improve too. Also never compare the 360 video footage watching on a flat 2D screen like a monitor or phone as they always look a higher resolution compared to being inside the headset. They never appear to be the same. I think for the average person the quality is good enough to have a music obsessed fan absorbed in what they are watching. The more tech interested music fans may not be as happy or immersed but that’s very much everyone’s personal opinion. I have found demoing my headsets to non VR enthusiasts like my family and friends they are always blown away by what they see more than what I am but I think thats because they have little to no expectations of the technology where as I follow the tech and understand what is possible to max out on these headsets. Long way to go yet for VR, this is the very beginning and it only gets better!
It’s painful reading here since launch. You are all so impatient, it doesn’t take a genius’s to do the research in VR and MVR and realise the potential is most certainly long term, if there isn’t an RNS each day you all cry, If we see something slightly related to VR you all think the share price is going to quadruple the next day. Chill out, do yourselves a favour and don’t look eachday and come back in a few months time maybe keep the blood pressure down. The VR market is going to be constantly developing day by day including MVR in the background for the next few years at the least so scrutanizig the business daily is only going to make you ill!
Don’t know if it has been mentioned but looks like the EVR holdings webpage has been updated with the latest holdings. Oppenheimer now listed, Third largest holders.
RNS?
Agreed that’s why I said I don’t rule it out, I was just saving anyone searching through the RNS’s for the labels they have deals with should they have had the same question themselves.
Article from the 1st, It was re-stocked pretty quick and the Oculus store itself didn't sell out, amazon has an excellent refund policy and people tied in with prime so demand on their would have out stripped even Oculus direct I imagine just from loyal customers and from a returns perspective. Until sales figures are announced we wont have any idea on how many have sold yet, we may get some figures towards the end of the year at the Oculus Connect event.
MVR don't have a deal with their label from what I have seen but doesn't rule it out. There are still global superstars that are signed to the labels MVR have deals with that have not appeared yet on the platform.
With the nature of VR uptake still on the slow side and lack of good content IMO from my own experience with VR despite the not so accessible headsets pre Oculus GO any new content is swallowed up by VR users as soon as its released due to the history of a lack of content. This would be more so with the GO due to its accessibility as a pick up and play piece of hardware. This would leave MVR with a content library that would be consumed within days by a lot of people leaving them with nothing until their artists are recorded again which could be weeks or months. I think their staggered roll out should keep people checking and coming back regularly to check for new content keeping the app relevant as they progress and improve and add features rather than people using it and leaving it for long periods forgetting about it. This may not be their strategy or reasoning but its one I think will certainly help to keep the app relevant and users with just enough to make them want more. I am also not saying the release content is enough but they have to start somewhere and it can only improve from here.
Scally, Robidicus is about spot on without me spending time counting everything. Staggered roll out is MVR's plan and one I think would be more beneficial to them in the long run.
richm88 MelodyVR did state that they were only available in the US and UK for now and further countries will be supported soon. I shouldn't think it will be long before it ends up in further countries. When they release for the PSVR if they want to release on the UK store it will essentially also have to be available for Europe too as it is essential a Europe store and as far as I am aware playstation content on the UK store needs to be available on the European one too so as soon as this is released one would assume other platforms would be opened up to the rest of Europe.
Watching2 there is no public info regarding this, I'm sure if it was this board would have posted it by now or it would have been on twitter. Nothing I have seen as of yet.
I agree entertainment will propel VR but I don't think education will necessarily propel VR. Gaming will still take centre stage before educational content. The one that will probably dominate all of them which wont get spoken about is VR porn, if you want to see what MelodyVR's content could look like in terms of quality and I'm even talking on the GO then head over to one of the top sites (CzechVR) and download a sample video direct to the GO (GearVR video sample works). They are doing some very high quality recording and its the sort of quality I want to see for the likes of other entertainment being filmed for VR. Don't stream the content either, much better quality when downloaded and played through the Oculus Gallery app.

I've had Apollo 11 on the PSVR since release and it is fantastic, I have also praised the developers on here in the past. They are active and very responsive on Reddit when asked questions regarding their product which is always good to see, some developers hide behind their computers and you never hear anything other than PR rubbish but not with VRE. I'm sure their next experience, Titanic will be as good as Apollo 11. Should probably keep the VRE talk to their own board though unless being linked with MVR in some way?
