Uber , Volvo & Super Cruise13 Jun 2019 20:06
I have read several reports on the Uber / Volvo 2nd phase development today. They have included things like:Uber and Volvo are to share the same platform which Volvo will develop across other modelsUber will trial with semi autonomous cars before fully- autonomous carsUber will only start trials without a driver when they have backing from the public and regulator.Volvo want to develop a system like Super Cruise as soon as possible.Uber are looking at 10,000 carsUber have taken delivery of 12 cars in the new format but not used them yet on public roads. But no mention of driver monitoring. So I went back to the earlier RNS about BdMSGuardian BdMS leverages Seeing Machines' automotive-grade FOVIO driver monitoring technology in a convenient retrofit system for semi- and fully-automated vehicles. ( fits Uber)It is designed to help the backup-driver in an autonomous driving vehicle stay alert, aware and ready to take control of the driving task whenever necessary, ( fits Uber) as well as help the autonomous vehicle fleet owner to monitor and evaluate backup-driver performance. ( fits Uber)Nick DiFiore, SVP and GM of Automotive at Seeing Machines commented: "It has been gratifying for the Seeing Machines team to work with a sophisticated customer ( fits Volvo) who shares our passion for road safety, ( fits Volvo)and we are delighted to see our technology used to achieve the safer development and testing of autonomous vehicle technology on our public roads".If the plan is to fit BdMS into 10,000 Volvo cars that will be used by Uber, that must be a massive change for SEE. If 12 cars are about to go onto public roads with massive press coverage it must get communicated very soon
