All stock prices are irrelevant at the moment, all you need to do is watch the US 10 yr. Until China and US show signs of negotiating the ten year will continue to increase and the Donald will be forced to run away with his tail inbetween his legs. China knows this and isn't blinking first.

It truly takes some magnificently misaligned thinking to destroy what he has over the last 2 weeks. Impressive, if not depressing.

Brent is down nearly 3% today - going to knock some of the gains off.

50% of the worlds GDP has 125% and 84% tarriffs on it. What we saw yesterday was pure corruption by those in the US adminstration. This isnt over until US and China start negotiating. Further tumult to come.

I’m not sure any board is signing off a $80/90bn+ acquisition under these political circumstances. In theory they could, but the reality is different

I lie, just found some extra funds to bag a 3.60 bp buy in my GIA.

Just dipped my toe in, not in bp, but 10k into Shell, then another 10k split between global growth equity funds. I dont believe now is the time to explore anything more exotic than this.

Been topping up bp on the way down with whatever funds I can scrape together

V true Jimothy - the integrated model is one slither of light in a bearish oil market, just as a rising tide lifts all boats an outgoing tide does the opposite. It can't hope to replace the guidance bp gives of $1 brent = $340m RCOP, but provides a natural short vs. lower oil prices.

Who knows what the next few days/weeks/month look like. I can only second guess the orange monkey

Always looks to fundamentals at times like these, if i liked the company before a grumpy orange baby that will kick it in a few years doesnt really change my perspective. Market could whipsaw based on policy and upcoming Q1 earnings, who knows. £20k powder in my S&S ISA ready to go, bp shows potential but oil is exposed to negative sentiment so only if we get down to 3.20 will I be interested here

Tuned into the Shell CMD - Mr. Sawan is extremely impressive, perhaps most impressive is this CMD hasnt captured the attention of the media as bp's did and he's set out Shells stall as being exactly what the market wants - steady cashflow and increasing returns.

Hopefully this is the market digesting strategy day announcement and major buyers starting to pile in, or it could just be a rotation into Europe ETFs out of the US and middle east risk premium sneaking back in with US-Iran comments. Brain says the latter, heart says the former.

Ironically I used to work at Ford, and whilst they had arguably the best engineers in the non-premium car segment. They massively over engineered their product vs. what they could charge. Remember the fiesta that launched around 09? Drove like a dream, outshone the Germans by far and you could pick up a mid-range one for £13k at the time.

I also saw in a recent FT article, in 2006 their german subsidury negotiated a clause with big ford (US company) that the US parent would offset any losses (!) no wonder their German business was 1) never profitable and 2) consistently won investment despite it being the highest labour market in EU. Sad to see but Fords EU business is on the decline. if they didnt have commercial vehicles at Dunton it'd have been sold off long ago.

Castrol is a unique brand and it seems like it’s getting shilled by an upstream dominated board who don’t really understand marketing, only E&P.

Looks like it’ll get bought by a Middle East player from the reports. It’s struggled over the last few years due to high base oil prices but you don’t just sell a business with the legacy of Castrol to lessen your debt for equity analysts. Have a bit of backbone and hold onto one of your prized assets.

If bp sells a 100% of it it’ll be a sad day for downstream and we lose many hooks into customers that Castrol offers us.
