If I was Murray or the new chairman I’d be banging on the door of Starmer and business sec. asking WTF is going on and why bp aren’t in any discussions to do the same. I’m not sure this in the board or CEOs style however which explains some of the share price difference

BP's strategic review of Castrol continues to progress at speed and the lubricants business remains a prime asset for disposal, RBC Capital Markets analysts write after speaking to finance chief Kate Thomson.

The sale of Castrol and solar business Lightsource BP would help the company meet its net-debt targets, they write. BP continues to expect $3 billion to $4 billion in divestment proceeds this year, with $3 billion in sales already agreed, they add. The oil major has so far received $1.7 billion in proceeds and expects most of the remaining amount in the fourth quarter of the year, they write. IEA are a joke of organisation, consistently sway with the politics of the time - They’ve now come out and said more investment is needed.

Reads as if all the blame for the reinvent strategy sits with the CEO however - the board should have more responsibility being laid at their feet.

With c-suite I kind of get it, if you challenge you’re out on your ear and your 20+ year high flying career along with hundreds of thousands in RSUs go do down the drain.

Shows how powerful one person can be in an organisation of tens of thousands - many lessons to be learnt and I’m sure the last 5 years of bp will be shared in business schools for decades to come. I hope McKinsey catch some of the flack too (unlikely)

Any western involvement back into Russia would throw the cat amongst the pigeons - bp would have a legitimate right to go to the UK gov and ask them wtf they are doing about this. Either all western co’s can play or none can.

However, the discovery remains at a very early stage and there is no guarantee it becomes a commercial project, they add.

Should it progress to a commercial project, it could be a catalyst for BP's shares. BP needs to undertake significant testing on the discovery and it will be important to track updates from the company to tighten the valuation range, they write.

I agree - but the battle between the board and shareholders wanting higher divi’s is ad infinitum.

I guess they want to keep the flywheel buyback going which I don’t really agree with but hey who am I. Uplifting the divi more aggressively will be the clearest sign to the market that the company is back in O&G mode, but in fairness its impact will be short limited, and potentially lost in the noise going into a forecast oil glut.

So can see both sides of the argument.

Anyway - I’m sure some on this board will get caught up in the macro headwinds coming oil’s way in H2, but try and see past oil price movements and focus on operating performance, debt reduction and cost reduction.

These are the markers for a share price uplift and the oil price will be whatever the Saudi’s want it to be.

There was an elevated measure of CO,, of course, on the measurement we have made on the rig. And I would emphasise that we have sent samples away to a certified lab. We do need full compositional analysis to come back. However, we are pretty excited. Are we worried about elevated CO? Not particularly. We need to find exactly what that level is. But the industry knows how to handle elevated levels of COz, and we, as a company. have quite a bit of experience through various projects over many years of handling COz-So, of course, we need to understand it before we get to full resource in place. However, not overly worried by CO.
