This is about the only time Tesco has ever looked interesting. At £2.45 already moved from my buy in at 2.30.
I expect a decent rise to the 14th with the trading update. Not rocket fuel like some of the smaller caps i ve picked but a steady 7-8%. I'd usually sell before ex dividend and the drop but with this lockdown fueling a positive next qtr this may be come a medium term hold for me as think the price will recover post the ex d and continue to grow. The revision to the balance sheet with pension deficit is a big plus.
the flip side is although i dont need the money, there may be better opps out there medium term so may well take the uplift of the rise from the 14th to the 11th. Expect it to move from 255-260 to close to 280 . My opinion only. DYOR

Steady build now Friday afternoon. Investors will want to get in and not risk missing out pre results week.

Asos and JD results on 12th /13th so really only Monday & Tues and im not sure they will want to take the risk to miss any rise in the run up.....

If it was outside of original guidance then they would have updated the market.

"positive" update is not about coming in the sales growth range as all of the pointers are positive here.

what ill make a real difference is the guidance on improved rate of returns, Gross margins, progress with the governance piece, performance of the newer brands and international performance.
a stellar update includes some news on acquisitions even if its just to say still in the running.

I believe sales will be at the upper end of expectations, profit on the back of reduced return rates and cost improvements will see an improved profit forecast ( not to the point it required a sep RNS) so whereas i was going to hold till results im likely to hold post result day and take stock.

pretty sure sainsburys reported yesterday hence the bumper day. they increased profit guidance.

Really depends on what else you want to do with your money and what your price target is.
Just after the results / potentially in with the results will be Top shop update which has gone rather quiet.

looking at other shares, so far they have performed well with good (ish) results not materially ahead of expectation and the share price has typically grown on the day as investors look to move to a business that is performing - Next/ Sainsburys good example of this.

next week lots of trading updates - JD and Asos on the 12 / 13 will set the tone so wait and watch closely. I have a plan to move to Tesco to ride a decent uplift there before the 11th Feb but that may change post Tesco update on the 14th also.

and as ive learnt, painfully. panic selling when the share price takes a breather doesnt work.....

no rationale behind a drop so hold and it recovers. as already posted on here, 5 days to Trading update, 4 if you wait for the Asos one which again will be a positive

Asos also down, most of the market falling back after a positive start - any thoughts on why? Sainsburys the only retailer ive seen today and positive again on online sales.

bit of Thursday profit taking before another build next week? delayed reaction to lockdown so my view is its not the start of some bumper fall, and i checked, the chairman hasnt sold all his shares.

Agree, i was unilaterally in here and doing reasonably well but sold 20% yesterday.
1. as not sure which way it was going to go today so if it dips, will top up.
2. there will be some bargains around elsewhere.

Store sales loss almost exclusively covered by online trading - strong online signal for boo in one sense but disappointing that they obviously retained most of the sales lost through store closure.
strong performance in leisure and loungewear and kids, poor performance in adult evening/ formal - no surprises there but the strong areas including home are not ones boo trade in.
will be interesting to see on the back of wider market drops how boo performs today

alas a previous post on vodafone was a best share to avoid..... i tend to take these as the sage advice they are meant to be.

I have just sold out of Tesco as made a nice profit as it grew, expect the price to step up nicely over the next 4 weeks, it will be a steady tick back up so will be picking up some shares in time for trading updates - i see a lot of the initial covid costs being reduced now as they begin to become "normal" no additional capital spend on this and significant spend boost with all of the competition closed at a key trading time. Hoping to get on board around the 2.30 mark as see this easily getting to 2.65 by 11th Feb if not more.

strange, any views? would love to know what price tgt they have and how far underwater they are.

having physical stores is a bad idea, completely different operating model to bolt on. Look at Primark who can bolt on online much easier- online retailers moving into even a few flagships is a strange move but never say never. Asos and others removed Boohoo products over the wonderful mess in the summer as did others. they may bring them back i'd see that as a relative positive short term

Is going to be a strange results set- clearly will have performed well as new brands integrated for the first time over key trading period, offset this with other retailers firesale and the lack of occasion to drive lots of partywear. ROW growth and US growth most interesting from a market perspective as well as profit conversion as Sept update and sales growth is positive, its how we have acquired new customers and how we have have converted the cash whilst managing the additional operating costs of Covid.
The build should start with Next and others trading updates who as pointed out in previous post are before us. - Next usually a good barometer and due on the 5th Jan. that will focus heavily on online growth, will talk about the drop of sales overall which should give us a positive run to update on the 14th. I am surprised however that we've not over achieved original guidance, should come in at the upper end is my view . I dont see any negative news on the company, it will get a real boost if the £198m share placing is then used for a Topshop acquisition.....

i agree, nothing finalised and i'm sure shareholders if given the chance will vote for cash!

interesting steer- im trying to work out do i hold and take the obvious upside as the price gains or do i hold post payout and see what level it drops by.

have some reservations on actual value- lots reported at 51p per share but thats post pension contribution and a bigger worry is they may share buy back rather than straight divi.

any views?

sky news reporting that a leicester man fined 10k for having up to 60 people at their party. The Guardian running an expose that surely they were
a) not paid the min wage
b) were from leicester so Boohoo are wholly responsible.
