The Union can now concentrate on the problem of the above who, I think selfishly, wish to break up the Union in order to remain in the EU. By declaring her intentions Sturgeon assumes that
(1). IF granted a referendum, Re scottish independence, she will win, then
(2). Having left the EU, with the UK, Scotland's application to join will be accepted.
The problems, that I see for S, is that they wish to have access to the gravy train which is really only for the non-contributors to the EU's coffers and which, with the departure of the UK, will be greatly reduced. Therefore, imo, Scotland's admittance to the EU will only be granted IF they can prove that they will be overall contributors to the now very stretched EU budget whose main, if not sole, contributors are Germany, France, and the impoverishering Italy. Once the usually canny scottish voters appreciate that joining the EU will probably cost thinem, will they decide to vote with altruistic intent, or common sense. At least when we do tighten our doors we can direct, those seeking an easy ride, across the border, as France has been doing to us for years.
