Quite so-my point entirely. If we continue hack our language to pieces then we stand in peril of being misunderstood.
I can recommend a book published last year. It is entitled "Have you eaten Grandma"( I'm sure I don't need to point out that insertion of punctuation changes its meaning completely) and makes for very interesting reading.

As the subject seems to get folk hot under the collar I shall refrain from further comment.

Oh dear-why do folk get so aggressive when we discuss something a bit lighthearted pre-weekend to act as a bit of an antidote to the present, rather poisonous, situation.

Grammar is not b......s Pokerchips-it is the way we form sentences to communicate clearly with each other, the Rulebook if you like. I sure do Johnychainlocker-unfortunately it is a spin-off from the way the spoken word has become distorted over the years, for example "wanna", "gonna" and "Febry", the much loved favourites of TV announcers.
There are many others contributing to the bastardisation of a wonderful language spoken, in varying degrees, by the majority of the World's population.

Dunno, but just had a butchers at the document. It is full of heavily split infinitives, refers to

The offending what??-an adjective without a noun (and, you will note, no mention of "alleged")
By the next paragraph the "offending" has morphed into "the suspicions"
and so it goes on.

As for "How easily people turn"... seems to indicate a sudden,( this week), change of heart on the part of us SI's when in reality there have been significant rumblings of discontent for some considerable time.
