we have to remember this is Africa. And I heard and saw enough "graft" from Jomo Kenyatta onwards. West Kenya is not unlike some of the illegal mining operations in Ecuador. Few or no controls lead to security issues which require armed defence. It is to be hoped EZ has counter-measures available to him. He only has to ponder the Tanzanian story which I believe cost Barrick $300m. Their partner, Acacia, had to defend their perimeter(s), resulting in casualties.

Singida - 243koz at 3.00g/t - relatively easy (near surface) o extract.
W Kenya - ex-Barrick - too small to fit in with their operations, but an ideal add-on for SHG.

Get annual production beyond 100koz per annum and Shanta moves up into a different league.

I note Shanta as a producer has about 740 employees on its payroll. So SOLG is either supremely confident or has gone over the top before putting in its first shaft.

Is Sustainable Capital another Rex Harbour in similar guise? Another miscalculation on my part. Don't fancy going through it again. How much more do you experts think SC has to go? We could be at this level for some time contrary to my optimism.

I begin to wonder if SC are setting the company up for a predator. Surely it can't be.

Have been here since 2011. Having known a colleague conducting drug trials on HIV/tuberculosis down south in that time I realise success is drawn out. I believe SmithKline is the pharmaceutical involved. Little progress has been achieved and no new drug regimens have been introduced since the '70s to my knowledge. It's a very long haul and SCLP's clinical trials can be considered as being ahead of the norm.

Have been waiting on those. Looking for a few more of similar size and then we are away.

I contemplated GGP as a third candidate but considered it a recipe for disaster if the grades were poor. And why a comparable SP when the stuff is still in the ground? Whereas SHG will almost certainly reach its production/smelting targets this year.

Stick with it, although we could do with a spot more PR, which is on its way.

Impossible to say but I have followed the soundbites from the beginning: One of them, years ago, was NM's assertion to develop SOLG into a ~$2 - 3bn company. It was well before Ecuador came into the frame. Things have moved along since and I note the wording emphasis has changed. "Production" has altered to "project" development in the last RNS, which can be interpreted as a different animal.

We are told there are 700 bodies on the payroll. Visualising that number - especially when the company is in its infancy - is quite astonishing. If they are permanent it could mean the project is much farther down the track than we realise. At this point it is doubtful the figure includes mineworkers (yet to be trained). We are not in the loop, although the MO has been worked through by the main players. We must also assume CGP's presence is undesirable. I now regard the stakeholders as a consortium of sorts albeit not the happiest one.

If and when there is a fallout I can not see a bid coming our way near term. The broad plan only changes if one of 13 tenements bears fruit. And Jason Ward could have a bigger role in the future.

I have taken something of a blind punt @ 17.125p mostly because of some nostalgia for Mbeya, Dar and parts of Kenya. Am somewhat uncertain over Acacia's impoundment some time back, but expect the subject has been thrashed out on the forum. The assays generally look pretty good and the Barrick Africa sale could be a real lift-off.

EZ's stance on ways of taking the company forward are unknown but his background suggests he is open to several options. The webinar might provide a hint or two.

I frequently read the bb without adding to the daily buzz. Most observations are pretty good although it's been a long haul over the past 8 - 9 years. There have, however, been valid points of view where the posters have been shot down.

My own opinion is we are getting much closer to a decision and result. How soon is another matter. The purpose of writing now is to add a comment which has had little attention, i.e. a multi-faceted approach by NM. He has set out his stall and, unless mistaken, he will take Alpala to production. He has stuck with this mantra, blocking some very big fish along the way. By attacking other targets - presumably Hueca with one drill bit being the only start - he might be able to offer alternatives to some hungry predators. If he can prove up one or more tenements - Porvenir? especially - with juicy-looking grades it is reasonable for him to say, "here you are, here's an option, hands off Cascabel". Furthermore, I can't see him tossing FNV: that one's nailed on. NM hopefully can satisfy nearly everyone, including PIs.

Slime dams - I know very little about Ecuadorian geography. Using SHG photos as an example of first class tailings dams I am a bit uneasy over location in fairly rough terrain. There are posters here who have greater knowledge on the subject.

The CGP imbroglio has been an unsavoury mess. The sooner it is resolved the better.
