Over the weekend I was inspecting Barrick (Tanzanian) ops mainly because they carry a lot of clout in the country. A sense that Shanta fortunes will be closely aligned with those of Barrick remains. When comparing two mine sites - the SHG one above and the Bulyanhulu image below - there is a marked infrastructure distinction. Barrick are sophisticated: Mine development is apparent. There is a helipad and a landing strip. Consequently their all-in costs will be higher. Admittedly the type of mining type methods differ.

I also wonder if an earlier reference to the New Luika mine, south of Lupa village, is accurate. When checking the above map view I note there is a mine extension approximately 1 km east of the main excavation. Could this in fact be the new mining site.

From the article it is apparent the Kenyan government is going to lean heavily o Shanta to provide stability.

I am doing a complete overhaul of SHG and SOLG, i.e. increase the holdings. Although no date is listed, the above link shows major shareholders, possibly 30 September.

BlackRock are now on the list, SustainableCapital do not feature, and five others have reduced. There is a net increase of 2.496m in II ownership. Others are almost certainly unrecorded.

Quite a large fella delivered from Germiston or wherever with some heavy road haulage through Mbeya. It looks a tad over 2 m diameter.
