TB is a terrible disease, yet a fantastic US$249.98 billion opportunity for those who can fight it.

The Global Plan to End TB, 2023-2030 is a plan for ending TB as a public health challenge by 2030. It provides a blueprint of priority actions required and a detailed estimate of financial resources needed to end TB. The Global Plan to End TB is a costed public health plan. It aims to cut deaths by 90% in 8 years.
The investment case for the estimated budget of US$249.98 billion required shows impressive returns on investment – US$40 for every dollar invested – and points out the huge human cost of inaction.
The plan offers robust guidance on the R&D investments needed to accelerate the development of new TB vaccines,
diagnostics and medicines.
The report identifies that rapid and accessible TB diagnosis is the first step in providing effective treatment and saving lives,
The Global Plan to End TB makes the following recommendations for diagnostics:
Develop rapid, affordable tests for diagnosis or triage that do not rely exclusively on sputum and are used at the point of care.
Develop accurate drug susceptibility testing (DST) for critical medicines, including through sequencing-based tests and strategies for early detection of resistance to the medicines used in regimens.
Improve tools for detecting TB infection (i.e. latent TB) and subclinical TB, and testing for risk of progression to active disease.
Develop and harness AI and machine learning-based tests.

Early Diagnosis Chapter 3
Scale up modern point-of-care (POC) diagnostics supported by:
- robust diagnostic networks;
- integration of TB screening and testing within other health and nutritional services;
- X-ray for TB screening, enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI)-powered computer-aided detection (CAD);
- electronic connectivity systems for timely reporting and linkage to treatment.

I am expecting an RNS before next Tuesdays meeting. If they wish to discuss significant development looking forward which is new information, then it will need to be RNSd before hand, surely.

Also found this grant awarded in 2020, and project is due completed in August 2023. I have no idea what the research involves but a total grant for all partners is approx. £1.2 m .

So if i understand it correctly the FDBK solution, or anything near it was not in the CDH Framework, so QVH had to go to tender to find it.

FDBK are not named on this agreement but we know they are involved with QVH pilot and will tender.

Just trying to make sense of this, as it will help in the coming months.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can identify a competitor that has not been discussed before, am i right in thinking that they would need to be listed presently on the NHS framework agreement , or am i thinking wrong - happy to be corrected.

Imagine over next couple of years each CDC coming on stream will look around to find the best communication platform, to provide that magic glue and finding there being only one solution , already tried, tested and secure and being presently rolled out at QVH...... They have their answer on a plate. It should not be hard to find the right solution.
And possibly in April the pilot results will confirm this.

Good money for just one CDC! Maybe now, others will start to see the opportunity here.

The promised Government money is now finally filtering down to where it needs to be. Is this the first of a steady yet continuous, multi year stream of CDH communication tenders ?

Morning Barnacle.
I think from memory the NHS rolled out Microsoft Teams in all hospitals very abruptly ( well over a million users in a few days / week) in early 2020, just prior the first covid lock down which was a V. good move as virtual meetings, audio and video calls, as well as secure instant messaging could be made between staff and family members remotely so to avoid close contact .

Many staff / self isolated due to covid and many essential staff continued to work from isolation via Teams. It was the success of Teams and how readily workers took to it that has led to the acceleration of introducing appetite for digital collaboration, most probably.

So Bleepa, the only certified digital imaging tool on the NHSx Clinical Communications Framework should be accessible to ALL NHS staff with an NHS email, via MS TEAMS, which will be everyone.

I just realised that Alan Denning Non Exec. Director at FDBK ( and invested) was advisor to Bill Gates in his Microsoft days!

Lets hope its a small world and next time they bump into each other he puts a good word in for FDBK :)

This could also be another opportunity for FDBK.

These Virtual wards have existed for over ten years in various forms but this weekend the Government have announced this will be in future a major strategy in reducing bed blocking in hospital wards, so to free up beds for emergency cases.

FDBK have always had BLEEPA and CareLocker as a solution to Virtual Wards . Patients , deemed eligible are "nursed and monitored " out of hospital, in their homes with a wide range of health professionals involved in their care.
Its my experience that clinicians who take on, and are responsible for a certain number of patients care within the walls of a hospital will also be responsible ( legal responsibility ) for those clients care in virtual wards also. These clinicians will demand fast, accurate accup to date information on each virtual patients

Therefore, a secure recorded, a near live record of each virtual patience journey, and care interventions etc will ned to be at hand to them at short notice....

Virtual ward rounds are literally lists of patience, still under clinical care but living at home , rather in a hospital bed and being monitored remotely, with community care nurse visits.

As always on AIM, the one important missing ingredient is news, or at the minimum updates.

There is nothing anyone other than the Bods can do about this. I do not take it as a negative that we have had to wait for the news, even though i do not like to see the sp drop pennies on no volume.
However, I do expect real progress when they do finally decide to share an update, otherwise i will be extremely disappointed. At present though everything looks to me to be in FDBKs favour IMO...GL Vas

I have tried to find tenders for Community Diagnostic Centres in UK, with very little luck and keep getting referred back to the NHS CDC Framework agreement .

This Framework Agreement states "A Contracting Authority is able to award a contract or sub-contract to a Framework Provider by a direct award or by undertaking a mini competition" ( i guess from those company's listed in the Agreement).

Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that these specific CDC contracts will not be advertised publicly like normal tenders and has its own independent budget from NHS Trust tenders., which makes sense.

I have probably been behind the curve here but if so, then there looks like at least two pots of money, opportunities that FDBK could compete in. the first being the CDC Framework agreement and the second the implementation of the digitalisation of each NHS Trust.

Its confusing trying to work out what revenues may be received from each individual trust , and / or each Community Diagnostic Centre . It seems like comparing apples and pears......Aren't these costs coming form different government budgets? I'm not sure but according to FDBK RNS on 6th Sept 22 they stated this..

"Feedback awarded twelve month contract for pilot extension in Sussex Community Diagnostic Centre....in order to facilitate an extension of the current CDC pilot in Sussex to further GP practices and to enable the adoption of further clinical pathways. The discounted contract is valued at £450,000 and covers the period from 31st March 2022 when the pilot MOU formally ended. The contract will run until 31st March 2023 by which point QVH expect to have concluded a formal procurement for the next phase of the CDC programme rollout, as is required by NHS procurement policies. Feedback intends to submit a bid in this subsequent procurement phase."

So the discounted contract is valued at £450,000 for one year, from one Community Diagnostic Centre , at a discounted rate, which is nearer your original thoughts of c 400k for 160 cdcs.....

The £450,000 is not me playing with numbers but announced in a FDBK RNS only four months ago which does go some way in supporting Toms original costings.

I see £ 8.2 m is the maximum Capital budget for the first five years of the 8 rear term, paid in three instalments.
Five years = £8.2 m
For years 6,7&8 a nominal revenue funded costs for the ongoing maintainance and support only is to be provided by the bidder.
My take on this is that for year 6,7 & 8 the bid will need to show a lower costing than years 1 to 5 years.

Looks to me ( unqualified view) that the budget is dravked towards the first give years. I may be wrong

Anyway, while having a look around I found this tender for the NHS SOUTH, CENTRAL AND WEST COMMISSIONING SUPPORT UNIT Published date: 6 January 2023. Closing: 6 February 2023, 12pm
