Travellers to the UK from abroad could soon be required to prove they have had a negative coronavirus test.
The Department for Transport (DfT) said the measure is one of several being considered to "prevent the spread of Covid-19 across the UK border".
"Additional measures, including testing before departure, will help keep the importation of new cases to an absolute minimum," the department added.
It is thought that haulage drivers coming through ports would be exempt.
However, the DfT said full details are still to be agreed and will be set out in "due course".

IMO this should've been done 10 months ago to protect our island and we wouldn't be in such an awful mess. The cost and hassle of doing all the above will just deter people from booking travel.

Thomas Cook said it would call customers to offer refunds or rebooking.

Ryanair will continue to operate flights even though some passengers might now be breaking the law to take them and of course Ryanair offer NO REFUNDS ... because the (mostly empty) flights are still operating , and of course RYA have the money already. Lockdowns, PPE, Cummings, schools, exams, Eat out scheme, track & trace, delayed vaccine roll out, broken promises, etc etc - long list of chaos. Sorry but truth is BoJo has been useless and he appointed those other idiots you mention.

The government must get a grip on this Covid. A good start would be to ban all international flights and enforced quarantine which most people just ignore.

If the government manage to get to 2M vaccines a week (their target) then it will take a long time to get to all the priority groups which number 26M or 43% of UK population. Two doses equals 52M. So that's a year (52 weeks) just to get health workers, the medically vulnerable and over 50s vaccinated. Now, as long as the roll out succeeds and the vaccinated can not transmit the virus and no more mutations occur then most over 50s will be able to fly by January 2022. That's just the UK, not other countries. Not exactly going to be a quick recovery is it?

UK just reported highest daily death figure of 981. USA also out of control. Biggest concern is the potential for a third wave coinciding with next summer - which could pose a mortal threat. Furthermore, Ryanair isn't offering refunds to flyers wishing to cancel, and people must re-book instead. Investors should exercise caution. Airlines can't keep running below capacity forever. Some big falls coming.

More bad news. Now over 40 countries banning travel from UK. Ryanair said that it was cancelling routes from Belfast, Derry, London, Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh. Good luck to those passengers in getting their refunds - they'll need it!
