RE: Not that it's a big deal but...4 Mar 2019 13:23
You should also amend some other info in your deramp from last week, My understanding is BW (freedomsat) followed by Eurona are Avanti's biggest residential resellers in W Europe and your numbers are way off, you hear 10,000 customers I hear its under 1000.
The way I see it with EE set to offer 98% coverage as part of the ESN, that 98% will also be availble to residential customers and ESN traffic prioritised when needed, so with the 350 new masts already installed and a small external antenna availble for the rural masses if they are not covered on cell phone alone then it's safe to say leave the small peanuts to companies like BBB and their resellers whilst AVN provide the backhaul to their network which is where the money is. I suspect if EE do double down on their bandwidth which is an option as per RNS would AVN be in a position to honor this given that fact that AVN only has 4 small KA beams pointed over the UK to my knowledge. If I was in a rural area and could pay one provided such as EE for all my internet/phone needs I know what I would do and it would be far cheaper.
Of course I wish BBB all success but when you have a CEO making quotes like the below i fear it will all end in tears and also note on the Konnect RNS BBB in Dec, its a shame as you put it "rather than just warm and fluffy PR pieces about non-monetized co-operations."
Quote from BBB CEO
"The investment EBI is making in this new superfast 50 Mbps product is a gamechanger for BBB and our customers alike. I'm therefore very excited that this proposition addresses many of the challenges satellite broadband faces with a fantastic offering that will deliver a service superior to most people's wired broadband at a similar price point for the user.
What it does do is offer a great deal for the end user but offering unlimited data over sat on all packages, I'm not convinced.
Avanti seem to have learnt the real money is in, large capacity sales, military, goverment and MNO backhaul.
So for me AVN doing the right thing, go for the big players who pay ontime.
Still on the sidelines at the moment for me but the next accounts will be a good read. GL
