RE: I cannot understand...12 Jun 2019 11:09
They did target western europe first as in Hylas 1, however the timing was bad, very bad, the eurozone crisis came about, goverments slashed their projects as in subsidised internet which was key at that time. DW was a banker, him and the others did fantastic in getting the funding and building the network but thats where the praise ends. Tom Winnifroth and his buddies bought into the story pumped the hell out of it which allowed DW to sell shares at about £7 which should have been the sign to get out fast which I didnt, the director sale made Tom Winnifroth mad so he and his shorter group including evil knievel aka simon Caukwell targeted the company which was the start of the long decline, they made a fortune off the back of PI's. I started noticing key people leaving the co and then when I sold out at a big loss. Then following H2 it seemed DW thought it would sell itself which it didnt, Big trust issues in Africa, they always think they are being sold second hand tech, you can't gain trust unless you have people based in country to gain trust not from some guy sitting in London trying to work via email it just won't work and didnt. Whats very clear to me is even now in Africa the main problem is the partners and the lack of disposable income availble, the mark up's on the service to the end user are crazy. I really don't see there is a big market in Africa for residential sat BB, not yet anyway and factor in the main part, actually getting the money in from the partners is always a massive problem. I've been to several African countries in very remote places with work, I just can't see the market is there yet. What is there is a very large push by MNO's to extend and upgrade networks which rightly so is now what AVN are targeting. It seems the capicity now over europe is nearly full, they have opened offices and employed local people in counrty and are clearly targeting backhaul, commercial and military. They should be finnished H4 activations by now so I now await first signs of major contracts from W Africa that would hopefully be the start of the recovery. All IMO
