Bumble,
There are hundreds of non-NHS organisations providing services under the NHS, these range from large corporations, such as Interserve and Ramsay Healthcare, to smaller companies such as Babylon Health and Totally Health.
Here are a few:
Alliance Medical, Babylon Health, BMI Healthcare (Circle Health), Capita, Care UK, Centene/Operose Health,
Circle Health, Cygnet Health Care, Doctaly, GPDQ, HCA / HealthTrust Europe, InHealth Group, Interserve
LIVI, Medacs Global Group, MedicSpot Virtual, Nuffield Health, Omnes, Optum / United Health, Pathology/Diagnostics, Practice Plus Group, Push Doctor, Ramsay Healthcare, Sciensus, Serco, Sirona, Spire Healthcare, Synlab/iPP, The Priory Group, Totally Plc, Virgin Care Ltd, ZoomDoc.
It is indeed difficult to compare profitability of companies operating in a varied manner across the board.
Additionally not all contracts with the private sector are successful:
The NHS signing contracts with the private sector for products and services has been ongoing for many years, but when the Covid-19 pandemic hit things changed. Emergency legislation was enacted in March 2020, which allows for contracts to be signed without going through a competitive tender procedure and it seems that as a result the contracts were also signed without proper scrutiny of the companies, the products or the contract details.
So for private companies to boast about (often aggressively) acquiring contracts with the NHS to provide services is not necessarily a guarantee of instant rewards.
Many large companies have withdrawn from contracts for a variety of reasons.
