Logically SP should rise and rise whilst buy-back is in progress. Sellers are being sucked up by HSBC, so less shares in circulation higher SP. However every so often broker stops transferring to HSBC, on instructions, to hold SP down and shake a few more sellers out. After all HSBC has given the instruction to buy-back so its going to take them eventually but the computer, which only balances buys and sells, backs off SP when there is a hold up in transfers to HSBC. If a few more resisted selling then SP would possibly rise.
