Colour could well be right and they do not care, just want to roll out as many as they can to meet the next elections. On the other hand if they do not meet the standards the new meters may be useless for anything connected to IoT. Now would be an appropriate time for JC to give an RNS on short term cash inflow and also do a news cast giving us a rundown on current state of the market in India (how it works and our position) and how we fair and expectations.

Hello LTI, well reading that dictate again from Minister unless anything has changed in the meantime I read it that he wants Pre-Paid Smart Meters meaning two-way, meeting standards which apparently he has not got. So there must be an anticipation of upgrading software in future (when it works) at obviously more cost which does not have to be talked about at present, very conveniently.

Vas, is the IS 16444 standard needed for read only meters. If not why are HPL so excited.

Sorry Vas I did not go deep enough. I understand the concept what i do not understand is if Colour's EESL meters only read how do they know when tampered with and if as i said before it is possible ( only if ) to slow them how does Utility know anything.

When I was a youngster, many many years ago, where I lived several families were fiddling meters. Cannot remember much about it but they basically connected either side of the meter, it did not stop meter but slowed it down.

How does pre paid affect theft.

Colour, you and I know nothing is for free. Their charges are further down the line and if they do not go full smart heads will roll especially if Cities like New Delhi have the complete smart works like IoT, anything done on the cheap often backfires, this is not old India.

Colour, there is no way you can call a read only meter with GPRS smart, that's just readerless, the smart element is being able to control demand, when to bring on back up power stations ( and shut them down ). It's like taking an old mobile and just because it is wireless saying it is smart. Considering the amount of tampering they would not know if fiddled a week or two down the line. As I said I think they are hoping to get the smart solution before clever people start asking questions.

Referring back to my 16:03. Are these technically smart meters or simply read only advanced meters. If so EESL are not going to say too much as it would appear not to be a progressive move in this day and age of smart but as Colour says doing the job. I assume they intend to update the software from read only to smart when it becomes available. Trouble with that is if it doesn't materialize what do they do.

Thanks Colour, that's a good enough answer. I think your reference to JC was that he said they did not need standards but he followed however that it has been laid down. Good or bad that seems to be the requirement on tender invites. Of course if they are not Smart Meters then I suppose the rules to not apply. If, for arguments sake, the industry standard is required and they did not achieve it then apart from removing the meters what do they do, go to somebody like CC, lets hope so.

Good answer, Colour.. But it brings me back to my first question about 3 weeks ago. Are EESL complying with all the Indian Laws. Others think they cannot be meeting the standard but may be they can. My impression from earlier comments you made was - well they are doing it so does it matter. My answer is if another company were not complying there would be ructions. I took away from your no reply that you did not know, otherwise I think you would agree that you would have rammed it down my throat.

Well Colour it's a bit of each. You plump EESL but do not comment when they have a problem, in fact you stay stoney silent. As Mysore got plaudits at their showcase exhibition to all the importants in India I don't think it is a crisis yet, probably a small problem that needs fixing and as CC has been successful elsewhere (Mumbai) it may well not be their problem.

Noted Colour.. We now need an update from JC. They have been installed so have been bench tested (passed), now they find a problem, is it big or small, is it the meter or CC part. A lot is riding on this 'showcase' so JC needs to give a quick information bulletin.

Woolley, give it 3Q and 4Q, R&D has been laid out, product is good and by all accounts and hopefully sought after. This should be the turning point and if so leasings here, Europe, India, etc will build over coming years. That sounds a bit too much like JC but we will know in next 6 months. No matter who gets them contracts are on the move.
