House-builders and pharmaceuticals will be up there, as will multinational like Unilever Diageo and Johnson & Johnson.

I’m not saying telecoms won’t rise, but any rise will be minimal. And I don’t expect supermarkets to rise much either.

Just my ha’penny width.

I could be wrong - though I very seldom am.

But don’t blame me if they miss out on the recovery rally.

The virus is really nasty but viruses by nature are like algae blooms; in that they encompass the globe but are short-lived.

I’m expecting a swift rebound when the virus starts to recede, the relief rallies on recovery could be record breaking.

But sadly I don’t expect BT to join in the party. Hate to say this, as I have 1500 shares, but when you’ve been around markets as much as I have you learn to feel it in your bones. Virus or no virus I expect BT to underperform the market and get left behind on the seashore when the tidal rally comes along.

As for the virus; well, influenza viruses always come back for an encore, so I expect it to resurface in the autumn, but not to the same devastating extent as now.

But did you learn anything from your mistakes?

Averaging down on a losing position often results in compound losses. Not only that the money can’t be used to buy stocks that rise. Also - the risk you take by not selling some or all of them is a further fall in the shareprice and even greater losses.

What starts off as not having a toe amputated can sometimes lead to have a leg amputated later on.

RBS goes ex-dividend next Thursday. I believe it’s still about 62 percent state owned. I’d be very surprised if they don’t cancel the dividend.

However I’d also be surprised if Lloyds cancelled their dividend being as it’s in private hands.

Once companies becomes politicized investors suffer because Machiavellian politicians use them to win popularity from the electorate at the shareholders expense.

The price caps of gas suppliers for example. I would never buy into a company which politicians had their grubby fingers in.

It remains to be seen. Dividend payments will be determined by the extent of the damage inflicted by the virus on a business. The most effected have already written them off, while other sectors are playing wait and see. Investors should prepare for that eventuality and factor it in when considering buying. Dividends are anything but certain.

Whatever you do, do not open an IG account. Despite hundreds of attempts I cannot get firm quotes for either sell or buy on their share trading platform. They are a massive handicap, a traders worst enemy, a monkey on your back. They are scammers, who operate like a boiler room outfit and need to be stopped.

Does anyone on here have a decent broker they could recommend?

The critical 20,000 level has been well and truly broken on the Dow. GS predicted the S&P will fall to 2000 - that now looks likely. The Dow will fall in tandem.

Uk shares are getting support the weak £ which is getting smashed and heading to parity with the euro. By the weekend at the rate it’s falling.
This makes stocks even cheaper for ADR and overseas buyers. That factor supported the ftse today.

The weak £ will stoke inflation and put even more pressure on a faltering economy. If only we’d gone in the euro we’d have had a strong currency rather than one resembling the Zimbabwe dollar.

The Brexit demons are coming home to roost.

My thoughts exactly. As soon as one moron is turfed off this board another one comes along immediately afterwards to fill his shoes. Or is it the same moron using different aliases?

Whatever the truth - they have nothing of any value to say - nothing factual, nothing of relevance, just the same old worn-to- death message - the shareprice has gone down.
