What happened to the absolute October deadline to allow time for the individual EU countries to debate / discuss the proposals and vote?
All that bluster from the EU side is forgotten, they've only got 17 days and it's nothing is agreed.

I heard that we might be on WTO for a short time in the new year while everything gets finalised.

snige, if you actually read the link you posted it does say the true value of exports to E.U is £294 billion for 2019 but the piece you omitted was that it is as I said 43% of all UK exports. I can't see any reference to 14% of GDP in there, and I'm not going to trawl through a PDF to look for it. Perhaps you could do it for us.

Brussels has warned EU governments not to break ranks or entertain the idea of side deals with Britain should trade talks fail, urging a firm line in order to force the UK back to the negotiation table “as soon as possible” after January 1.
According to a diplomatic note seen by the Financial Times, EU member states were warned by Brussels not to do anything that would ease the consequences of a no-deal end to the Brexit transition period on January 1.

The fundamental problem is that the two sides view the negotiations very differently. As one weary British official puts it: “They view us as a departing member state, not as a country they are doing a trade deal with.” The British view is that the withdrawal agreement dealt with the process of leaving and this agreement should be about the future. But much of the EU’s thinking reflects a mindset that fails to appreciate that the UK was quite serious about leaving in the first place. For instance, the EU is keen that Britain doesn’t deliver what it regards as unfair state aid when the Covid recovery starts. But the EU itself has no plans to restrict itself in this way and thinks that not only its coronavirus recovery scheme but the European Commission and European Investment Bank funding in general should be exempt from subsidy rules. It is not reciprocal for the EU to be able to exempt its €750 billion fund from the treaty’s subsidy rules when the UK’s post-Covid funding would be subject to them.

The central bank said the counter-cyclical capital buffer - extra money banks must set aside during economic good times - would be held at zero until at least the last quarter of 2021.

Banks would not need to implement any future change until the end of 2022.

“Some headwinds to banks’ capital ratios are ... anticipated over coming quarters as unemployment rises, business insolvencies rise from current low levels, and risk weights on banks’ exposures increase,” the BoE said in a half-yearly assessment of the health of the financial system.

“Nevertheless, the major UK banks can absorb credit losses in the order of 200 billion pounds, much more than would be implied if the economy followed a path consistent with the Monetary Policy Committee’s central forecast,” it added.

BrassGemini, I posted a couple of weeks ago about inflation and erasing the national debt. When it reaches say 100%+ it cannot be reduced by fiscal measures and taxes alone. However with the decimated economy due to Covid it would not be easy to raise base rates, even solvent companies would struggle not to mention individuals, it would be a fine balance between the two.
In that context it may not be beneficial to lloyds.

This is the EU's four-point contingency proposal for the event of a no-deal outcome by the 31st December. In the event of no-deal the EU wants reciprocal fishing rights for a year, meaning European boats could continue fishing in British waters.

“A proposal for a Regulation to create the appropriate legal framework until 31 December 2021, or until a fisheries agreement with the UK has been concluded – whichever date is earlier – for continued reciprocal access by EU and UK vessels to each other’s waters after 31 December 2020”

While in the event of no-deal, tariffs on goods between the UK and EU will be introduced, the Commission wants bare minimum plans in place to facilitate air travel, aviation safety and basic road connectivity for freight in for around six months, during which time they hope new negotiations could find permanent solutions.
Note the EU wants a year’s access to British fishing waters versus just six months of air passenger safety regulations.

Back in 2017, before the General Election when Labour was still pretending to want to deliver Brexit, Sir Keir made an anti-second referendum argument that clearly set out how an exit deal (Withdrawal Agreement) comes first, and free trade arrangements could then later be agreed, after the UK has left the EU. Very odd of him to fein ignorance when it suits him.
