You cannot open new positions on a Spread Bet, only close existing positions - you can buy the shares though.

IMO - Interesting mind-games going on... the resolve of those holding SBs with IG will be tested now until this situation plays out. Watching a trickle down (maybe even another spike down) of the share price , being coerced in to selling through doubt and fear but then when it recovers not being able to open a new trade....
I wonder if Professional Traders have access to the market through IG?

Summarised from call with IG:
It is a broker margin related issue. IG have decided that it can no longer offer new leveraged trades on stocks that have a margin requirement of 15% or more. Apparently it is not just specific to EUA. and there are a significant amount of stocks that have gone on to the "Closing only: Market unavailable to open" list.

I can see now that this has affected a number of AIM shares that I have in my IG watchlist. However I am still somewhat confused (probably my ignorance) as the vast majority of leveraged positions require a 20-25% margin. See Barclays PLC (hardly a volatile AIM share):

You can still buy shares (ie non-leveraged positions).

The reason I was given by IG on another share is that their broker's margin requirement meant that they could not offer the market to clients.

Interesting to see that EUA has gone the same way as GAMESTOP and AMC...!

I don't usually do this, but as I have profited from other peoples recommendations, As people will soon be able to cash in a sizeable profit here they may be looking for another growth opportunity so I thought I would share this with you.
Bio technology is apparently the next "boom" sector. Unity Biotechnology developing therapies to tackle diseases associated with old age. There are some significant investors involved including Jeff Bezos (Amazon).
I was watching them for some time when the results of their first clinical trial proved inconclusive so the share price plummeted and I bought. they have subsequently announced a new clinical trial and I would suspect that the share price will keep recovering towards the results due Q2 2021. Last time the sp rose to over $15 pre-results and is now at $5.65.... - it has since regained some of its lost ground, and more recently had a pull back, presenting what I believe is another entry opportunity. I have been building a larger position.
They are listed on Nasdaq but tradeable via spread betting/options and purchasable via some share trading accounts .

The short squeeze of GameStop and AMC grabbed everyone's attention as it is a bit of a David (retail investors) and Goliath (hedge fund, The City) moment. Normally it is the other way round, with Goliath squeezing David. Could this be happening here? Small, retail investors getting "squeezed" (either literally through margin being called on trading positions, or investors selling through fear ) so that shares are transferred in to the hands of Goliath? This might be happening here....

Absolutely right. And needs to be said so that new or less experienced investors/traders know from the outset that the cards are stacked against them. In that knowledge, you can then participate in the market with your eyes wide open.
I recall being slated for saying "expect the unexpected" and that was before the 50% drop and subsequent modest recovery. Eurasia shareholders, GameStop and AMC traders now know the meaning of "expect the unexpected"..... it can happen on any stock...

A bit of panic margin covering on drop to 13p, and then no need as on IG its gone back to where it was!!
Lets see what tomorrow brings.

My gosh, does someone else agree with my prediction of plus £9??
And according to Dimitry even a few days early ;-)
