I refer to the first page of three recently presented to Media/Investors on LinkedIn/twitter:

Some low level observations:
1. It is dated January 2023. Investors saw it for the first time two months later. Perhaps it was used elsewhere beforehand?
2. In common with virtually all Synairgen's comprehensive output since October 2022, it is targeted at an US audience. (For example, listening to the voice introducing the 'Host Directed' podcast leads to the same conclusion).
3. The detailed footnotes to the factsheet suggest that it wasn't originally produced for a LinkedIn/twitter audience.
4. "Synairgen is developing a near pH-neutral formulation of interferon-beta (IFN-beta) for inhalation that is delivered directly into the lungs using a mesh nebulizer as a potential broad-spectrum antiviral to help reduce the progression to more severe disease or death."
a) There is ongoing development of these studies. Perhaps this is linked to the Southampton University project?
b) nebulizer* Evidently intended for an US audience.
(* In medicine, a nebulizer (American English) or nebuliser (British English) is a drug delivery device used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs.)

The link is to a paper published nearly two years ago. The conclusions drawn, and perspectives discussed are similar to Synairgen's aspirations. The company is moving in the right direction. Reason dictates that assistance from a larger entity will eventually be necessary. The scope of the task in hand is enormous, but the possible outcomes of the proposed studies are manifold.

From the conclusions and perspectives section - all relevant to Synairgen's proposals:
1. The recent and increasing number of viral outbreaks without available treatments underline the critical need to develop broad-spectrum antiviral drugs essential to treat patients rapidly and efficiently.
2. Host-targeted and virus-targeted broad-spectrum antiviral strategies are both needed and likely complementary to offer best possible antiviral coverage and a variety of treatments.
3. Overall, broad-spectrum antiviral drugs are more difficult to design compared to classical virus-specific drugs, due to the differences among viruses, not only in their structures, but also in their behaviors once infecting the host.
4. Some viruses might require an organ-specific treatment due to the virus tissue tropism while other viruses might require a systemic treatment to reduce viremia.
5. There is a discrepancy between the need of broad-spectrum drug treatments and the antiviral drug research pattern that favors virus-specific research.
6. Antiviral drug research most often uses the logical approach, one virus, one target, one drug (broadly active or not) to clearly understand how a drug is working against a specific virus.
7. Innovation at multiple levels are required to increase discovery of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs, such as the discovery of novel biological mechanisms shared by multiple viruses and the design of medicinal chemistry approaches to target these mechanisms.
8. Additionally, even the most active broad-spectrum antiviral drugs display a range of antiviral activities depending on the virus. Therefore, studying drug combinations to limit drug resistance development and to increase antiviral efficacy is also needed.

Yesterday, to my shame, I engaged in a dialogue with individuals on two bulletin boards, who do not merit my time and attention. In future, I will desist from giving these mindless narcissists the attention they crave.

Today, on a more positive note, there was some encouragement for small to medium sized biopharmaceutical enterprises in yesterday's budget statement. It will hopefully encourage investment, and partnerships with larger entities, to bring vital research to fruition. I have been far too dismissive concerning our CEO's aspiration for SNG001. In a nutshell, he stated:

1. There are no broad-spectrum antivirals approved for use in patients with severe viral lung infections who are at increased risk of progressing to severe disease or death.
2. SNG001 has potential as a broad-spectrum antiviral which could be directed towards patients infected with a wide range of viruses including influenza, RSV, coronaviruses, parainfluenza viruses and others.
3. There is no precedent for a broad-spectrum antiviral clinical development programme.
4. Determining a clinical pathway for this approach is complex, as there are multiple viruses being targeted for different high-risk patient groups.
5. Identifying the optimal clinical development programme, and investigating SNG001 against this wide spectrum of respiratory viruses is the company's primary focus.

This is an immense task, and there is little wonder that it is taking time. Yesterday's articles, kindly supplied by Brand, emphasised the lengthy time element for clinical development programmes, and the large number of biopharmaceutical SMEs in the UK, who are competing for funding and partnerships to stimulate their development programmes.

I am sitting tight on my investment for as long as it may take to bring it to fruition. I shall endeavour to ignore the market fluctuations, and the comments emanating from the unbalanced minds of internet trolls. We will all need to be patient. Synairgen is engaged in a worthy development programme. Should it come to fruition, its product will be of immense benefit to humankind, in addition to providing a good return on our investment.
