@sneaky, there is no doubt affimers are neat, highly specific molecules that can target the bits you need to detect. The issue is at the other end, how can you detect the binding with a high enough sensitivity. PCR does it by copying, but lateral flow type tests require ‘developing’ the signal. PCR makes billions of copies, lateral flow is often a 1:1 detection so billions of times less sensitive. That’s where the problem with affimer and antibody based tests are - signal amplification.
