Everyone in this country over the age of 50 has witnessed the demographic changes and the younger ones can see from older newsreels those changes and frankly most people do not like what they see. This government swept to power on the back of that discontent and they will be swept from power for a very long time, maybe for ever at the next election , whatever the media tells the people to believe.

Romaron, great article from the Times. About a year ago I wrote to Professor Dieter helm of oxford uni about the implausibility of the then government net zero plan and his opinion was that it was impossible to achieve that plan. Of course, mad Ed's plan is even more ambitious and expensive - so heaven knows what he thinks of that!

I do pity the grid guy who has to publish some pathways but the likelihood is that the response will include some heroic assumptions like the previous governments plan and thereby ensure no mud sticks.

For me there are 3 big things happening in the UK right now that the government needs to manage;

1. An increasing population - mostly from outside europe- causing strain on the infrstructure and cultural problems

2. Government spending that exceeds tax revenues

3. The ill advised change to net zero.

All 3 can be blamed on a poor legacy from the Tories BUT this government are making matters worse. At lease Kier Starmer can see he is making matters worse and letting everyone know that is the case!

I am beggining to think that Starmer has some issues , perhaps he is overwhelmed by his job - he seems to be over reacting to everything- all a bit of a worry really , once you look beyond the comedy.

Nothing wrong with pay per mile - if you are rich. Like everything else these days - the poor are getting a bad deal - it is disgraceful that the basics in life, housing , food transport have doubled in cost in real terms over the last 50 years.

If Starmer's aim is to further stoke the unrest the sooner he hands out some gongs to the 'community leaders' who urged their people to leave their weapons in the mosques the better.

On the other hand , if he wishes to build bridges with the white woprking classes , he could restore pensioners fuel payments, stop illegal migration and scale back his net zero stupidity.

I would have thought that there were some wiser people in his party who could have a quick word with him.

What I find concerning is that no journalist seems to have pulled together the entire net zero cost challenge. Just read the great article in the sotsman about the unaffordability of the investment needed in wind turbines but there is alos the £30bn that national grid needs, similar summs fromm sse and the other transmission companies. Throw in similar sums to rewire at a distribution level and the amounts are totally unaffordable before people get to ashp's and ev's. The only saving grace is that there are not enough skilled linesmen to construct the network or indeed enough cable to complete the work within 20 years! We really are heading for disaster - but what will break first ?

Wllma, you asked when to buy LLoy shares - answer when they are low. When do you sell? - Answer when they are high.

Next question - when will that be? Answer - there are huge numbers of people paid multi million dollar salaries working that out just now and they have'nt got the time to post the answere here unfortunately.

Wllma, I have been doing this donkey's years and make lots of mistakes BUT my biggest tips are;

1. Avoid 90% of aim stocks - they are run by and promoted by disreputable people, many of whom operate on these BB's.

2. Avoid jumping on the bandwagon because of fomo - this links into point1.

3.Read RNS statements from the companies you are interested in.

4. Always look at a company's cash position - that way you should avoid any wipe outs.

5. Take any tips on here with a large pinch of salt.

6. In line with 5 above, my tip , LOL ,for any new investor just now is to buy PLUS shares .

7. I am not selling anything just now !

They would be fools to remove the 25% tax free option as it boosts spending at the point of retirement where many splash out on a large spend item e.g a new kitchen/car/campervan/extension /electricity bill - all of which boosts uk economy.

STP, for the first time , i think, I agree with you the UK's debt problem is the fault of the Tories.

Labour will make it worse by sending £12 bn overseas to help with climate change , when that money could have helped with our debt problem or given every household £400 off its fuel bill this winter - but it does'nt want to. It could also use it to pay the green levies on our fuel bills , as thety are £200 per household - but it does'nt want to.

The choices labour are making are worse for the poor of this country than the Tories and I never thought I would see that in my lifetime.

To lighten the mood, I heard some american explaining that he could never vote for the democrats because they wanted to put the top rate of income tax up to 37%. Lucky you I thought.

Just listened to Kier Starmer, lots of mention of the riots and the Tories but he has not mentioned Immigration once . He is still in denial - wtf is wrong with the guy.

Frankly the discontent in the UK will rise with or without a tough budget. Clearly he has no answers - the opinion polls - if we ever get one will show that he is completely out of touch.

The questioners from BBC ,ITV , C4 and SKY also avoided the immigration question - clearly directed to do so by the government. Disgraceful mainstream media also ignoring the concerns of many many protestors.

Typical Michael O Leary- he jumped the gun, made a mistake and opened his big trap and made an incorrect statement and rather than say he got it wrong, now a few weeks later says the market has levelled out.

As for ftse demotion - Burberry were touted as prime candidates and they are hugely less valuable than ezj.

Today I lost total confidence in the Tanzania project and the BOD. The one project is going to need lots of cash so why take on a second if the first is any good? Also why dilute shareholders at this time. I shall be selling up as this has a UKOG vibe imv.

So green levies are £188 per vat on every household and those could be stopped.

Furthermore the 10% extra on everyone's bills will bring in 10% extra VAT for the government and that increase in VAT would likely pay for all pensioners to get the £300 , rather than just some.

The government are taking the mickey just now and I genuinely think that this will be the last labour government ever.
