Does this mean takeover is out or would that count as a success story. I suppose it would if the price was north of £1. My main worry is that the desire to be a success story may mean that it would be a good few years before we reach the end game.

I hope you are wrong JoeBass. Your 40p. then suggests an immediate 50% discount on the placing. With the overall positive tone on this board and brokers forecasts why would NM give away shares at such a cheap price- 50% discount from your 40p and over 70% from 70p. considered by the brokers ? I sincerely hope placing will be somewhere between 40p and 50p

Like you BigCashews I have been a passive reader. Your strategy to sell when NM/BHP/Newcrest sell makes sense to me. The worry I have is that if anyone of them sells the price could drop significantly and there could be panic selling.

I am worried that hype of takeover of ITV may be similar to Peppa Pig (Entertainment One _ETO). It was said (by analysts and posters alike) contents is king, there will be ques of bidders etc. when the bid came even MMs priced it higher than the bid. Months later no counter bids and price now back to the original bid.
Could the same be true that there isn’t a que of bidders waiting for ITV? Any thoughts?

Yesterday was the deadline from my brokers. It all seemed like "now or never" situation so accepted the offer at a huge 82% loss. Directors having told us not to accept have been silent when final shot fired.
