These are predictions for today's closing price which were given on the weekend after the announcement that GGP would be entering into the GDXJ. Predictions were closed at 0800 on Monday 14 September. I gave the following paragraph as an intro. The price at the time was 19.90. It's very revealing that only four people predicted lower than the actual price. 15 predicted a price in the 30s and 40s, 24 between 25.0 and 29.9, only 4 predicted a price lower than what actually happened. DYOR, don't believe anyone's predictions!

Remember, don't invest money here you can't afford to lose, no one knows what is going to happen! Expect more volatility tomorrow, don't get depressed if it goes down as well as up tomorrow, Scal results incoming, MRE is still coming, December is coming. This GDXJ stuff, and SP prediction stuff, is all a game, the real worth of the company is in the gold/copper etc in the ground and the ability to locate it!

Hi, Speedy. I remember you warning about that, fair enough. Though I don't think the predictions was really the problem. It was that hardly anyone was warning that a drop might happen. You were and I was and we got shouted down over and over.

Good post, dtrip. I agree. The price hike was overdone and the correction also is overdone. Profit-taking followed by panic.

On this board we figured out that GDXJ would be buying one month before it happened. We aren't smarter than other people. A lot of people bought, including some big money, intending to profit from the big buy. It drove the price up. Not all of those people sold on Friday, and some have kept taking profits, selling more and more.

That will run out, quite soon. The drop is overdone, but this kind of volatility should be expected after a big market event like this. I admit I thought it would be stabilising by now, but here we are.

Remember, a month ago it was at 13. We've had a big, big spike since then. A lot of people thought it would be bigger. They were wrong. It's still a great performance over the last week. The only reason people are disappointed right now is because of excessive expectations, driven in part by some absurd ramping on this board.

I still firmly believe that the gold is still in the ground, is going to come out of the ground, and the long term prospects here are phenomenal. But people ramped the short term prospects, and that was always dubious. I'll post that silly predictions thing before long. Reads sort of like a Hall of Shame, seems to me. No, I didn't get it right either, I admit that. But it tells the story of the attitudes here after the GDXJ buy was announced.

Personally, I don't care whether he does or not. No serious investor will listen to or be influenced by this stuff.

A big trade going through that is going to move the price.

One month ago we were at 13.8. Today we're about 20. The whole market and POG is all in a funk. We are too, combined with obvious profit-taking. More power to those who wanted to take profits, and good luck to them. I'm still holding.

Yes, but what happens is that as the weighting of a particular share rises or falls, so also does the value of the shares the tracker holds. So their position is somewhat tracking the weighting changes, so the rebalancing buys/sells are not always as significant as you might think.

LOL, agreed. Would still encourage you to read the GDXJ rules, because there's likely another big buy coming in December and you'll want to understand what's happening.

If not, you have nothing coherent to say on the matter. You can't change the facts of what they really do just because it is different from what you think they should do.

They are not trying to make money, they are trying to track an index. If the index goes up, the ETF goes up. If it goes down, the ETF goes down. They are not "trying to make gains on their buys." They are simply trying to match the index.

They were not "invented to make money." They were invented so that those who wanted to invest in a pool of gold juniors without having to pay high management fees could do so. The tracker does not charge high enough fees for them to be doing what you suggest. It's designed to mindlessly follow an index, and the index is designed to mindlessly follow rules for what companies are included and what companies aren't, and how much they are included.

That is why we knew GGP would be included, because it is simply based on published rules. That is why we knew how much weighting GGP should have and why Hydro could call them out when they got it wrong. It's not handled by investment professionals, it's handled by low cost clerks.

I understand why you are saying what you are saying but it is wrong. It is all there in writing on the GDXJ website and the MVIS website. So to GDXJ, see what they say about tracking the MVIS index, go to the MVIS website and read their index guide.

Technically you are right, but as Hydro says, we've got a huge jump on them. Yes, if other constituents increase in value it will somewhat blunt the increase in GGP's weighting. We're still on track for another big buy, even if our SP levels off at 22-23p.

@redirons, it really doesn't matter what you do and don't believe. The rules are clearly stated on their website and they follow them. The criteria exists, it is clear to read if you would bother. It is simply weighting as determined by the index. It's too bad you feel aggrieved but I did read your post and it is simply wrong, and this one is, too. If you want someone to have any confidence in what you say go actually read the criteria that is clearly written on their website.

If it were a managed fund you would be right. It isn't, it's a pure tracker, and pure trackers simply do not work the way you described.

The writer of that says that the increase in MCAP of £400 million is unjustified. That ignores the fact that it was undervalued previously. Once in a generation gold find, with sufficient copper to push the AISC very low.
