Marston' pre tax profits for 2022 had swing to an u/lying profit of £37.7m from a loss of £101.3m. i.e. a positive Swing of £139m. Earnings per share came in at 4.3p, compared to losses of 13.6p per share in the 2021 financial period.
Mitchells and Butlers just reported on operating profit a swing from a pre-tax loss of £42.0m a year ago to a pre-tax profit of £8.0m in 2022. Earnings per share came to 2.2p, a marked improvement on the prior year's 11.5p per share loss.
So it appears Marston's have turned around with a greater move to profit than M&B which must show the only reason they have not moved up comparatively today is due to sentiment and before others have had time to digest. Good time to buy here in my opinion. I will stock up with some more while the going is good!

Pub operating profit rocketed to £115.4m from £5.7m year-on-year, while the company's share of the profits from the Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company (CMBC) came in at £3.3m, swinging from a loss of £14.5m a year ago.
Looking at its underlying performance, Marston's reported total revenue of £799.6m, up from £401.7m, while it swung to a profit before tax of £37.7m from a loss of £101.3m.
Earnings per share came in at 4.3p, compared to losses of 13.6p per share in the 2021 financial period.
Marston's net asset value per share improved to 102p at the end of the 2022 financial year, up from 64p at the end of the 2021 period.

Looks like they are coming back fast from lock down and have an expanded estate to run at that. Very clever move to take on the Brains pubs in my opinion.

I can see not only Families visiting the establishments but lets face it if Corporate do's cannot be held in town (due to rail strikes) then many businesses might be booking up for more local Country restaurant's and they will most probably be soon over booked.
Sounds like very good value Scorpio -they have always been very family orientated to me! Friendly too.

When the share price is so low in value daily trades can make more of a volatile effect on price. Some punters make use of this to make some serious gains, some Companies such as Nat West decided to consolidate their shares to have less on the market and make their shares less volatile for this reason. However even some dealers will deliberately lower the price to encourage sales, particularly if there is a shortage of stock. The Marston's Board released in my opinion a very encouraging statement and I cannot see at the moment anything other than long term growth and profit returns. So I am not worried at all and see this as another opportunity to buy some more tomorrow if I get a chance but can see following the dovish tone coming put of Wall street, the likelihood is the market will rise overnight in the far east and be up by the time we get up later this morning! GLA and DYOR but do not panic Captain Mainwaring we are not doomed!

Well FT-Carlsberg do call themselves "probably the best Lager in the World! ? I have a suspicion in this case that it might be their accountants insurers who call the shots? Maybe we can see fear from the accountants university grads that a Professional Indemnity insurance claim could be coming in and they need to double check before submission for a part v11 transfer which could be good news for Marston's shareholders if a t/over is in the offing as others have suggested? Who knows? if could just be the accountants have a box at the world cup!!

F/T. From what I understand Carlsberg is a Danish Company and the JV just falls one part of it. Suggest it will have a number of reports and will be subject to EU rules which may be where there is a problem. i.e. Part of the JV will come under EU rules and the Marston's side will not. There we have the problem? Perhaps? ATB, GLA, DYOR.

Totally agree we appear on paper to be very cheap and I also suspect another offer coming in for Marston's either from Carlsberg of from a foreign venture capitalist as sterling bids are very attractive at the moment from the states. I also can also see for Carlsberg being a Worldwide Company it being very difficult to bring all the foreign currencies trades back in when the currency market in particular has been so volatile. The good news broken this week is going forward Marston's now can see a brighter future based on uptake in both beer sales and bookings.

"The group has been reassured that there is no disagreement between Carlsberg's auditors and CMBC management and we should be in position to announce Marston's results within the next week. The delay finalising the CMBC audit is entirely procedural and outside of Marston's control," Marston's added.
Also for the new trading year just starting looking forward a very positive statement :-
Since the end of its last financial year, trading has been "encouraging", Marston's said. Like-for-like pub sales are up 6.8% year-on-year.
During the two days when England has played in the World Cup, sales were up about 30% year-on-year. Drink sales alone were up around 50%.
In addition, bookings for the key Christmas period are so far ahead of 2019 levels.
"Total bookings for the Christmas period are currently higher than in 2019 and in line with our plans, albeit walk-in trade typically accounts for a significant proportion of overall sales over the Christmas trading period," Marston's added.

One must be positive and it could be they are simply adding up and making the most of recent improving figures which appear to be very encouraging on sales per Marston's release? i.e. Europe are in the World Cup too? In fact if the figures are not good then it makes the Management of Marston's look like they have just issued a false statement (which is illegal and so unlikely). I suspect Marston's will have already been aware of the figs outlined when they released their raised statement!
One does not always have to be negative and sometimes in life things turn around for the better! ie. look at todays share price a bargain if you ask me and time to top up!!

Good result for England tonight & I bet Marston's are pleased for ongoing Sales (based on their release late yesterday). The longer interest is shown in the tournament the more they will appear to be benefit I suppose? Perhaps at long last they have let the Qatar out the bag -ha,ha! Also helped by the fact they run local pubs and the recent train strikes might help pull sales back to locals at home sales from demand than they otherwise would have lost to other pub chains that would rely on town and city consumption and hence commuters? Only a thought? GLA

Seem to remember Chinese cargo was finding its way to Southend Airport which shows in the last statement why some concentration was being directed that way!!
Spain has only started to unlock other areas in the past week, infection rates are still going down and Ryan Air are looking for new routes. All looks good to me. As I keep saying Barclays when agreeing to a multi million pound facility will know of certain discussions and possibly agreements in place. We only need to see one new announcement and this share will fly (no pun intended).
I have many local friends and travellers to Southend and City workers who all would prefer to go from Southend than travel to any of the other London airports we just need to see more choice which will come from either the current owners or a new more international owner taking over? i.e. Many actually like investing in potential infrastructure projects and Southend has all the major works completed with new rail lines (cross rail) on its door step! Fingers crossed for another news release very soon.

Seems to me the talk is now about "opening up" the airport once again and Barclays will be supporting that too. I cannot see Barclays having agreed to so much support in fact unless they already knew of some sign ups. Watch this space!! However I also see HL are also one of their biggest shareholders and they know a thing or too about following the growth market as we know. The cargo flight return was also mentioned which the echo has picked up on as many here have said.
I am surprised however that they have not tendered to take flights from the big airports where strikes persist and where travellers must be very upset, and make use of Southend's new "cross link" connections. Time will tell if the BOD can support yesterdays verbal statement with some meat on the bones, but I suspect they already have a couple of new destinations in their bag! Think I will come in here later and snap a few up!

For Barclays to provide USD90M it looks like an approval for expansion is on the table to me and great growth opportunity with big funding. Who said they were finished? The bank do not supply that amount of capital at the rates suggested lightly and they will have already approved with due diligence the Esken business plan which will give them the comfort factor. Suggest certain agreements may be pencilled in already? I also read last week Ryan Air looking for new routes last week, and the cross rail opening will have helped too as S/end apt has the infra structure in place. GLA.

Looks a great time to buy! Expansion is on its way if you ask me. Funds are in place with support from Barclays. Renewables shown to have increased profit in winter too. So l see expansion for both sectors here and fi they can get even some of the 40 proposed new routes then the likes of Ryan Air, Wizz and all with join Easyjet at the airport I am sure. Statement far more positive than previously in my opinion. Pretty sure Barclays will be in here for clients too soon.

Pretty sure as the aviation sector is starting to come back we will see something of a surprise in tomorrows video call. Ie. Even in the past few months the RAF have been looking at the site for potential future operations. i.e what better place then to have a small fleet of protective aircraft for the south east and London areas for patrols and interceptions of anything untoward coming from the east? Ryan could make a turn too as they were looking for additional expansion sites, and we already know Easy have 3 routes into Spain which will more than likely open up as mentioned previously. Southend is also still used by private aircraft and many might want to travel in small numbers to the World cup on private charters? ,Meanwhile it will be good to catch up on the Bio Mass/ Energy side of the company and what with prices being what they have been this area of profitability is likely to have grown. Lots to look forward to here in my humble opinion.

I've booked my place and expect to see new routes and optimism for the future. I read last week Spain is opening up further for visitors too, and what with the cross rail "Elizabeth line now operation" from Shenfield just a few stops up toward Liverpool St. from Southend Airport this will give a link and access from all London Hubs and the West coast which gives Esken endless opportunities. Especially with Heathrow staff wanting to strike during the World Cup!?

I think out of the 9 Market brokers they consulted on their broker accounts 5 say strong buy, 4 Hold and only 1 sell and the red pointer is indicative of strong buy they advise the Mkt to hold? Errh tells me something this....it must be the time to buy some more!! GLA.
