Mostyn,
Absolutely, many businesses will be affected by GDPR. Any business dealing with customer data.
I've never said GDPR only affects 1R or ad tech.
Like GDPR, I also mentioned ads.txt as an industry change. If you look back at my posts, you'll see the same posters said 1R won't be affected by ads.txt as they already handle it and posted a link to 1R''s 'domain spoofing' statement.
Now 1R have issued a statement on ads.txt, it's ok, 1R are dealing with it!!!!!
There's also IFRS 15 which became affective from beginning of the year.
Move to fee transparency, publishers/advertisers using fewer DSPs/SSPs.
These are all industry changes.
I've never said they will adversely impact 1R - others have planted that view into poster's minds. I simply mentioned them as industry changes - they could be challenges or opportunities but to ignore them is naive.
With the 1R statement on GDPR and the use of a team of lawyers, since 2017, I would expect exceptionals.
With 1R & DataXu legal case, I would expect exceptionals.
The point is the forecasts that are repeatedly mentioned will, imo be affected by these increasing exceptionals for fy2018 & fy2019. Once announced, these exceptionals will then become 'obvious'.
It may explain the reason for the large rolling debt. It may explain the reason why Yume acquisition was completed so soon. But to say 1R won't be affected by the industry changes is very naive.
It may explain why 1R closed their browser extension, SupportFreeContent, which was described as a 'Pioneering Initiative'.
Hopefully, it will all become clearer over time.
Maybe next year....
Where's that TU?
