@M'rn'gSun, yes.... There was a hope the nocturnal dots would be scattered around like confetti and number at least 6, 7, 8 or more. And then we could marry that up to the daylight image (which will be available shortly) and see how many of the lights at night align with old or new drill locations.

Should've given us a reasonable active drill count, plus where the activity is.

The nocturnal image implies no activity on the south side of the dune bridge.... Which would be a shame.

Of all the things I'd hoped for this wasn't one. Someone suggested yesterday the drillers might be told to switch their lights off when the satellite was overhead, just for a larf!

This looks like they were told to all have their toolbox talk in the central compound at the same time.

Then I had a look at the camp..... And oooh, two lights nearby, both on the road to the south.... They must've been late for that talk!

Better hope for a cloudless morning to see what may be new....

Value_S, I think the bonus would be to match up shiny lights at night to holes in the ground in the morning, and then getting a good idea of the true "busy drilling" rig count. Otherwise we all may get misled/excited by normal nocturnal vehicle movements, if we are unlucky and the daylight image is all just cloud.

It all looks like good temperatures for meringues and definitely not for me.....

I reckon I'll be able to sleep tonight if I don't have homemade coffee & walnut cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner unlike yesterday. Think the improvisation with granulated coffee was poorly judged.

PG, you've got night and day temperatures confused. It is still baking hot.

@MrEMC2, think your 2nd link was recommended by a resident "Ozzie Bloke"on this board as being more accurate and matched the reality that unfolded.

@MrEMC2, last time there was a "cloudy" forecast the satellite image was fine. Could be wrong but I think the image is taken in the morning. Initially I thought it was first thing from the distance between individual clouds and their shadows on the ground but it may well be about 10am - which may be before cloud gets to form up from the heat of the day. Not sure about that "cloud forming up in the afternoon" theory either - it's a desert so no moisture to boil up to form clouds....? Better just cross our fingers and hope for clear skies.

Meant to be sunny in my corner of Scotland. How's about we all take our toilet paper supplies out and spell out in big numbers on the nearest patch of green what we think the Monday closing share price will be, just as a bit of alternative lockdown entertainment. (Zoom is getting a bit tedious after all, still waiting for some naked flesh to gatecrash any of my meetings.)

Due a nocturnal image from Sentinel 1, but it won't get captured until UTC 21:14, so quarter past ten at night British Summer Time. Then it takes a while to be loaded onto the website.

Sentinel 2, the day light image of holes is due on Monday. It is time stamped 02:03 UTC, used to be loaded by quarter to seven in the morning..... But more recently has been loaded up around or a bit before midday.

Think PG had kindly posted a link directly to the data download from the satellite, rather than waiting for the nice user friendly Sentinel web pages to have access to it.

It could be double fun on Monday morning, with some likely added spice of some wild SP fluctuations.

Patience required. MRE needs something closer to 200,000m of drilling results completed before it will be published. And the first half dozen Scallywag holes are not going to happen until a cultural survey of the ground is completed with the Martu..... So that relies on huge CV19 vaccine progress being made which is months/years away - unless they work out a way to get GGP exploration folks and the Martu heritage folks safely together in the Outback to look at what is on the ground at Scallywag. Although with the daytime temperatures still forecast to be 39 and 40C all week I can't imagine there's any rush to walk around looking at surface rocks and sand in sweltering heat.

@mushroom, very similar to the drilling of glacier samples - the core drill gets a long cylinder of rock out from depth. Unlike in your ice scenario it stays available for scrutiny and doesn't melt! The cores are all stacked in custom boxes, nicely labelled in sequence, and shipped off to the lab for analysis - slicing and dicing, etc etc. The web will show you pretty pictures of all this.

Some one on here mentioned, after gold had been found, exploration had happened, lots of core drilling completed, the mine was built, all the ore shipped off to the smelter.... A third party came in and bought all the old cores from the store room for a few dollars and processed the cores for thousand of dollars profit!

Can't recall the names.....or companies involved, but I was amused at the thought.

@Chester, from previous result publication timelines I think anything that appeared by mid-March as a hole on the satellite image has a chance to be in the new figures reported on 29th/30th April. Six weeks(ish) gives them a chance to get all the intersting bits of core out of the hole, shipped to a lab for testing and the results documented, checked and formally written up. Checking back to the satellite this means we should get most of the original "Emental Cheese" drilling in the south west - perhaps an additional half dozen results from there; but nothing in terms of results from the more recent "across the dunes by new bridge" much further out to the south west. I do hope they give us a clue in a few words about what is going on out there across the dunes though.

And I did wonder what Artemis were up to about 5km to the north.....but the "daylight" image tells me it ain't them toasting marshmallows round their camp fire, probably just a wierd water effect.

..... Friday's looking cloudless according to the weather forecast so we should be able to add another frame to PG's time lapse with a new satellite image.

I'm keen to see if there is more activity in the north west extremity. Maybe they found the edge out there by hitting a blank, while the south west continues to hit ore hence the numerous new holes.....

The 30th does seem an absolute age away.

I bet you they wished they'd waited two months. Reckon they bought circa 88p. They could've got their holding to 29. 99% with pretty much the same amount of money by shopping now.

@olderandwiser - Vertical 200km of drill cores ain't unusual to get to a MRE. Remember the best part of half a kilometre in every drill hole is getting through the surface dross. The next 5,6,700m and beyond is where it gets interesting.
