I am not sure that you are right in your 09.09 post that there will be no red tape on planning.

Bubble2021 ref 08.04 post I have just checked planning applications on the Belfast City Council website and can find no outstanding planning applications for Belfast Harbour. That would mean any possible plans are at an initial stage and no planning application has been made yet.

oldtramp ref 17.54 post on reflecting on this overnight if there are sufficient contracts to justify the expense then I cannot see why building a turbine contract as part of a joint venture could not be considered.

Just seen this article on the BBC Website https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59169887 Looks like there will be more wind turbines needed in the Republic of Ireland.

WOLFOFWARE ref 15.10 post thanks for this that is interesting as I was not aware that H&W Belfast was fabricating blades. Clearly there is a contract to fabricate the blades and the drydock is needed next week for a ship repair so it may mean shifting production to Scotland.

I wonder whether instead of the current offtake agreement they might use an auction model where companies bid for storage space. As there are seven caverns they might want to auction in lots. I think the first phase is two caverns so they could auction off the space in those two caverns then when the other five caverns are ready auction the space in two lots. This way they could maximise revenues.

I wonder what the developers would do if they are unable to sell the houses because nobody wants to live that close to a shipyard. This reminds me potentially of a situation that occurred in Stoke Newington some people bought a house next to a pub then complained about the noise from the pub and people drinking outside the pub.

ThisTimeNextYeer If you get a chance at the 17th November event can you ask what it is intended to do with the freehold land that they acquired with the shipyard.

Loosegoose ref 19.46 post two observations first when you try and annualise the revenue based on the revenue stated in the last set of results you may run into an issue. The revenue for the year to December 2021 appears to be backloaded with more revenue coming in between August 2021 and December 2021 compared to July 2021 and July 2021. I will need to go back and check but if I recall in the period to January 2021 I believe that the revenue figure was around £5m so about £5m was generated in six months not great.

Second on your £60m point based on known and anticipated contract income I do ot believe this would be much of an issue. Baked into revenues for the 2022 year is about £10m being the balance of the money from Saipem contract. All being well HARL should get the follow on contract which has a £43m value let us assume that £20m is booked in for 2022 that brings in about half of the £60m.

Ban4118 ref 10.55 post While I would hope that is the case that is not what the article reports JW as saying. His comments as reported seems to leave the option open. JW's comments as reported were CEO Infrastrata of Harland and Wollf, John Wood said: "We looked at this yard in depth before Appledore and the problem is the water depth, dredging, and who will pay for the constant ongoing cost."

He added: "Given the current state of the yard against the substantial dredging costs, it does make the business case and ROI problematic, but with some buy in from the council and port, anything is possible."

It is that reference to anything is possible that concerns me. Not being rude but as I do not know you I have no way of knowing how to judge the reliability of your comments.

Just seen this story about the Pallion Shipyard is Sunderland https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/sunderland-group-shipyard-rally-announced-22006281. JW is quoted leaving the door open to a possible purchase. I would want to see firm orders if any purchase is made. With HARL in my opinion on the cusp of turning profitable a fifth yard would only make sense IF it would add to the bottom line and not push back the time when HARL becomes profitable.

I do not normally do questions to the Scottish Ministers but there are two questions today that may be of interest. The first is

The second is the last one before PMQs so hopefully it will be reached in time

What steps his Department is taking to create jobs and encourage investment in Scotland's shipbuilding industry.
