Wow... just looked in ahead of the new week and I see that there's some ping pong on the diamonds yet again.
Whilst the value of the diamonds is a factor, I'm of the strong opinion that they're wrapped up with VAST getting back to doing their thing in Zimbabwe... which is absolutely more valuable than a bag of diamonds. If there are or have been negotiations going on then, for me, it's more likely to be about re-starting ops in Zim.
On confirmation that the diamond issue has been resolved, the sp will rise - I don't know by how much but it will rise. If there is also news about re-starting mining diamonds in Zim, then we're in multibag territory.
Oofy - there are a number of reasons that the diamonds have been held up... apart from due process (we can have an arrogant attitude towards the timescales that our Zim friends work to), the diamonds have become embroiled in the politics between the courts, RBZ and the Zim government... add to the mix the potential for VAST to re-start ops and a local community who may or may not want VAST back... one can see the complex nature of the situation. It isn't as simple as AP turning up at the RBZ vault with a wheelbarrow.
Oofy - hope you don't mind me saying that yours is a rather cynical characterisation.
There's nothing gained by RBZ by not complying with the court order.
There's zero evidence that Mrs Mugabe took the diamonds (lot's of speculation but no evidence) - we've been reassured repeatedly that the diamonds do exist.
There are plenty of companies who will steer clear of Zim but I do agree that those who are there know the score. And, yes, there is still corruption but give them some credit for trying to clean up.
Dilara - don't know where you're seeing the contradiction!
*** typing 'mine'
Dilara - didn't see your post whilst typing my name. You said it way better than I could!
Zim certainly want and need international investment. The VAST situation is an irritation, I'm sure, but they have been happy to go along with it and they are open to VAST re-starting ops.
Things are looking very interesting!
I think you've mis-read what I said - I didn't say that Zim needs to play nice. Using your words, AP needs to play nice.
Part of the mix, I believe, is that the RBZ and the government didn't see eye to eye (one reason why the bank governor is not getting another term). The government were happy to allow VAST's court moves to happen without objection but the RBZ have been slow to comply with the court order. Reputationally, Zim wants to be seen as 'open for business' so they didn't like AP setting out the issue to the market during the summer... especially when they're supportive of resolving the diamond issue and allowing Vast to re-start ops in Zim.
Having said that, I'm inclined to think that the RBZ are now co-operating and that the negotiations have been allowed to move on to re-starting ops.
Also, there are the sensitivities about 'imperialists robbing' Zim of their assets!
AIMHO. DYOR.
Largest trading volume for over a year yesterday - almost 20% of shares traded. Something significant is up!
Not so sure about a pump and dump... but I'm glad to get some corroboration. I've said that the return of the diamonds are linked with VAST getting back in to Zim to re-start operations... which is far more valuable than the return of this infamous bag of diamonds. The negotiations, I strongly suspect, are around getting back in to Zim. Whilst I'd be happy with an announcement about the return of the diamonds, it would be extremely good news if it was coupled with a re-entry in to Zim.
I think the market yesterday got a whiff of something!
I'm afraid that you can now tell why GR has been reluctant over the years to do a resource estimate... he's had to withdraw the 2017 one because it was, how can I put it... inaccurate. He's been found wanting again! And, now, when he's been found out, he's overegging the pudding again with saying that, of course, he'll be able to sell the lithium for more than was expected... apologies for being a tad sceptical about that claim!
And he has only been forced into doing this to get some bank finance... boy, he's desperate!
I'm disappointed once again!
I give up... if you follow the thread, you'll get the joke... repeated from last year.
He should take the balaclava off though... not the weather for it this time of year... and I doubt he'll get passed security with that sledgehammer!
... by his look, the year hasn't been kind to him - hair a bit greyer and thinner and he's put on a bit of weight... and the wheelbarrow is a bit rusty now!
Apparently AP spotted outside RBZ...
I can certainly understand why some people are selling if they've got a sniff of a profit. There were some positives and negatives in news released by VAST in the last few weeks. FWIW, I'm holding for the time being... next piece of news on funding will be positive (or not negative) I believe... and, with the possibility of the diamonds (however slim), I'm inclined to think that the rest of this month is looking OK... still risky but potentially very rewarding.
Well I guess that a number of things could be pointing to some sort of resolution soon -
AP raising some funds specifically for the diamond issue.
He also confirmed recently that the resolution was well advanced and that it would be completed soon - certainly gave me the impression that there had been more progress.
Bank governor wants to clear his desk before ending his term.
Lenders extended arrangements - with a different spin on the communication of that last extension.
Apparently, final negotiation was taking place from London (??)
We've probably been here before but I can understand why the sp is beginning to rise.
If we actually get confirmation that the diamonds have been received/sold then I think we'll see a huge spike. The bank governor will want this resolved before he ends his term next month!
As I've said before, I think that I'd be more interested in what else is agreed with the Zim authorities. Will we see VAST back operating in Zim?
Apologies Craignews - I meant to say all kit arriving on time. Apparently, GR is emailing folk privately to say that all the kit has arrived!!!... says a lot about the guy... underhand, devious... spent money raised for one thing on other pet projects, was caught out last year selling his shares without telling the market... he's a shark and only just survived being shown the door by Canmax! Sorry to say this about anyone but he doesn't deserve any courtesy extended!
Compare him to HE1's CEO... I'm afraid no comparison again!
