angus, it’s v difficult to prove much about ctag in its current form, because
there is so little verifiable information in the public domain. hence, most
of the chatter on boards like this, twitter, etc, will either be completely
fabricated, or based on individual contacts/experience that cannot be
independently verified by others (e.g. ‘amit phoned me up and told me
X or Y’, or ‘I knew a shorter who told me A or B’, etc.), or is chatter simply
speculating about possible scenarios that may be worth watching out for.
in that latter spirit, one reason why some rip-off companies continue to
communicate about their supposed plans & successes even after they’ve
already conned some people out of their money is because they hope to
con those same people out of even more money, and/or to persuade new
suckers to hand over some dosh. plenty of ways to try that, but one fairly
well-known variant is the advance fee fraud, which can take many forms.
people who do fall for those kind of tricks often don’t own up to that,
sometimes because they still don’t realise that’s happened and still
genuinely believe they are onto a good thing, sometimes because
they are too ashamed or embarassed to admit what’s happened (and
occasionally because they have threatened with some kind of adverse
consequences if they do.). ? but does any of this apply to CTAG? - difficult to
know since there is so little info available about what’s really going on. but
i’d politely suggest, it is sensible for pis to keep such *possibilities* in mind.
