All fair points, well argued. We are two sides of the same coin. Which side I land on depends on how I feel. All except one. DESIGN. I agree strongly with your views on the quality, understanding, professionalism etc, etc, etc of the design, manufacture and upkeep of the RR design. In the years I worked in RR submarines in design and safety I have never met more professional, deep thinking engineers, metallurgists, physicist etc etc, etc. All employees do what was right, even if unpopular with the powers that be. It's a great engineering team behind the product.

All the other points in my posts are political and financial. So I get a bit nearvous when MP are involved. Can't help it, it's what RR paid me to do for so many years..."what happens if this happens and then this then hsppens and then the other happens as a result" Even after 4 years of retirement I can't get out of the habit. 🙂

I hope RR get all the contracts, the Company deserves it

My simplistic view is

Desugn, by now the uk regulator has carried out a gap analysis between Canadian and UK regulations. If there aren't any significant differences or hurdles to overcome the GE Hitachi option will progress though the Gate 3 assesment gate quickly, catching up with the RR plant.

Make, if GE are already manufacturing the nuclear equipment they may have already opened up a significant gap over RR who won't have even ordered the long lead materials and items.

Fund, the uk finances are in dire straits . The R R consortium are not interested in raised private equity to build and own nuclear sites. That'll be left to 3rd parties. On the other hand GE-Hatchi are mist probably in the funding and ownership ga

Are RR dead in the water?. Really depends upon the split the UK give the two winners (if there are two). Anything less than a majority number of sites being given to RR will send out the message to the Czechs, Fins and Swedes that UK doesn't back it's own strongly. This good lead to a major rethink of the European counties strategy.
