slater, $1680 is like a dam, it Is taking a while to break but I am expecting it, then a precipitous fall, I am expecting Hoc to start losing money, however if they survive given their balance sheet is already the worst in years, then we should make that 340p as gold sores. The price is currently low and gently falling to reflect the dangers imho.

Mr Bond energy and food costs ARE included in CPI, teh figure reported today, core cpi excludes them but is a couple of per cent less as a result, but not the big figure reported today

Tornado, thanks more spot on wise words from you, Mr Bond I think the statistics looking bad are pretty correct, inflation is pretty high and with the labour market tight unemployment is low, the question is what next as forecasts are notoriously iffy, like weather forecasts for a month or two ahead,but as Tornado points out maybe interest rates won’t /can’t control this kind of supply side inflation

Mike, retired banker said profits north of 150m pounds! I make it nearer £110 or a bit less accounting for lower chromium which would be around $125- $130m at latest exchange rate so pretty much in line with you but still a PE of about 3, and with a divi of 17% of profit a yield of around 5 ½%

However the question for us is how will gold do, amidst this, and more important gold miners
Overall PE’s across the market will fall putting pressure on all shares
Sellers will seek liquidity selling all shares
Gold after an initial fall is likely to rise
Which miners will survive the fall (I am assuming Cey with strong balance sheet will)
Will gold then rise fast enough to obviate market falls
And in which country will owners of gold miners will be wiped out as poverty leads to
revolution
Ie we pretty much know gold will be a great safe haven
But will Cey, whatcha and Mr Grantham think?

Rodge, for me a steady rise to 50p + would be far preferable than a rise to 20p and the usual fallback

bearish, I have 760k so much like you, though I used to own 1.5% of the company - sold a hunk when hit 40 last time - I an sticking to these neither trading nor buying

Bushy, should be but this is Hoc with all its problems so however low the shares fall you always seem to be able to buy it for less if you wait

I actually think that this is real and good news and that we should rise today, as it removes a doubt, we have had our pull back….famous last words but I am not usually prone to posting the price will rise

Not just OMI, as said before here one of the Rothschild mantras that helped make their fortune was buy on the rumour, sell on the fact, OMI is a perfect case in point rising each time up to the news which is the time to buy, falling after it. It is not Brad’s fault, it is just he has to regurgitate what the market has pretty much just been told and got slightly ahead of itself with

PGM’s are holding up surprisingly well, on the JMAT figures I make our basket 2432, tho ths figure usually around 5% lower. Chromium continues its slow and steady decline, and with China and the recession this is likely to continue. But at current prices we are still making big profits, and reinvesting most of them in a growing future

Stretchim et al, why should omi rise much today when the news was out in the morning. Brads speech only really added that the phase 2 agreement would be delayed by protracted negotiations but looks likely to be confirmed? There is a lot of wishful thinking by many here but it is great to suddenly see the board so alive as lots more punters are sucked in, hopefully some will stay. Ever hopeful that this will make it back to 40p and even my initial 260p buying price as this has been something of a dog historically with a lack of honest news

Gold gnome he is on the money this time. The question for us
A. Will gold break down below $1680 (probably), how far will it go down and for how long before turning. Presumably while the rest of the stock market is still plunging.
B. Will miners plunge far faster with the falling stockmarket and their rising costs, which miners will be around when gold turns?

Thanks Tornado, spot on apart from Volcan which they have had over 10 years and not been able to do anything with. My view is that it has now been split into a separate Canadian company, as AClara was, in preparation for floating it like AClara, but I don’t put a huge value in it the potential would be enormous but the practicality is very hard. Without those reserves our valuation could be low or high depending on Inmaculada permits that come through, and how bad interest rates and PM prices sucking investment that should be going into finding new resources at AClara. But much appreciated!
