The point i was making was moving away from dots only under a generous license from stm - if indeed stm have walked away from qd sensors, using qf, using their lithography - they could only do that with stm customers as things used to stand regardless of exclusive or not.

Agree it looks bleak unless they can get concession from stm to pursue small-scale customers that were interested in QD sensors and get the fab running. Some good reviews from a few products might lead someone to swoop in and buy nano.

Counter to that Kooba is Steckel still trying to hawk evks of his Swir chip 2 years after he published a paper in 2021. He said they were looking for production runs in the millions (ie mobile phones) my guess is he didn't land a big customer. Think we will know what the story is from negotiations over terms of the jda break up.

Noticeable that the Eu Horti Qd project using next gen qd has made little progress and that includes a camera maker in horti who has only made about 10k units.

Sensor qd patents are young and there is 3 years cash left, no need to be dishonest, as i've said before, company has given bad news, and it is is bad, no need to rant.

Imo and for me the key bit is this:

It says to me that nano think stm have kicked qd sensors into the long grass and not that their 'strategic priority' is to dump nano and take qd in house. If they can get to use their fab spin coating chips with qf then they are right, if stm block them then yes they just wanted rid of nano.

Trapped in this now, don't think i'll get out unscathed in 2-3 years. STM was their only game really. Imo stm got no demand or interest on circulation of its swir evks. It keeps its toe in swir with the eu funded hortiqd which ties in a camera maker but whether that is enough for J Steckel (or his manager) to keep him at STM only time will tell. Yeah Sony are bigger in swir but who knows if they are the party nano are working with via the asian chem co.

Hope they can negotiate a cheap license on use of QF to make use of their fab. If they could get a few quick wins with small scale production of devices it might do enough to prompt someone to buy the co.

Dieter May joins Isorg in 2022 when they are the 'cusp' of gaining commercial traction. Two years later they go belly up. Now, I'm not saying he's in the running for the CEO at Nano, cos he is probably at a loose end at the moment, but it will be interesting to hear his account of what went wrong when the dust settles.

Looking at Isorg's large area sensors for mobiles etc reminded me of how steckel ended his may 2024 essay of the impact of QD:

Current image sensor technology leverages the use of silicon (Si) CMOS to drive QD sensor pixels. This means that cost will be constrained by the size of a Si wafer used to make devices, which today is only 300 mm (maximum). This could increase in the future, but the real value of leveraging solution-processable colloidal QD technology to make sensors and other optoelectronic devices is by fabricating them on meters-squared areas. Accomplishing this may require a move from Si wafer-based CMOS to colloidal QD, organic electronics, or other large-area and low-cost thin-film electronic technologies on foil, plastic, or glass to drive sensor arrays. When fabricated over meters squared, the cost will dramatically decrease. Larger-area sensor arrays can be leveraged for future applications in displays and human-machine interfaces, where all sensing modalities can be built into a single sensor array using lens-less sensing with the help of AI to create images and to process useful data captured over a large area.

Can't find anything on buyers of Isorg IP. Another part of the grenoble mafia, was a CEA spin-out. If there is/was any value STM would have had a shufty.

I have seen the same reportage on Sky Glass reviews but there is no sales data so we don't know. anything really. Perhaps nano will cover in Oct fy, which should be a good read on many issues.

Sky have in excess of 20m customers, Sky glass sets are only available via subscription, 3 set sizes. Numbers have the potential to dwarf samsung quickly.
