What is going on in the Netherlands - or are we invoicing from delivery to port for STM? But if so why decline?

It is the lack of info that is frustrating.

We also know via the HortiQD eu funded project that stm is a partner in some of the direction on their work on next gen dots. The CEA funded academic QD lab run by Peter Reiss advertised for a phd (with him and Steckel as supervisors) with a brief to combine 2 different composites of non-lead QD on film, differ their sizes and shells to find optimum device performance. One of the dots was ours supplied presumably via STM, the other was one the lab created itself. I'm not sure if there is an easy win here or just endless fun for academics creating new composites and seeing how they work with each other.

But in any case, a bit like Quantum solutions with Topodrone (or whatever they're called) we need to be supplying our variety of dot to these small-scale opportunities to get our science out there instead of it being hidden behind eu funded projects we are excluded from joining like HortiQd or BamBam (Aleida).

Without an updated website really hard to know what nano are offering to industry in terms of the science. Watched a 1 year old tear down of a samsung qd tv recently, noted that they use Indium Phosphide dots. I have no idea what nano currently define as their cfqd - other than being cadmium free. Both Quantum solutions and Qcustomdot are using indium phosphide dots in sensors and display, though the supply to emberion and STM (1st gen) has until recently been lead sulphide. We have at least 2 non-lead cad free dots but you wouldn't know that (or anything) about our dots from reading our site.

How do you rate their chances of securing contracts of several million in the next year or two, and what do you factor are the alternatives to that?

8 year is a lot of patience. I have a few months so my answer would very different from yours. Their target must surely be to reduce cash burn by doing what they said when splitting from stm - direct pursuit small-scale short term opportunities. More products on the market demonstrating the benefit of qds the more likely a big ticket product - Meta/Apple devices and/or mobile phones. Yeah you've earnt the right to say you've heard it all before.

Stay in the game with products you can point at and your acquisition price also rises.

There are no no qd producing companies with a good sound underlying business - unless you count samsung.

Ok TR - are samsung qd tvs crap? Do their qds add anything to the experience? I've never seen one so it's a genuine question. You can choose to avoid answering and just go on about the settlement if you prefer obviously.

It's only reputationally damaging if someone makes 'better' dots. Neither Apple or STm have gone to a different source. It is obviously more to do with committing to the tech and its related costs.

Agree but it doesn't mean Nano should stay at home until they get some.

IMO good to see the founder out and about. Doesn't matter about how well known a co is. Guy from Sony doing a talk, another from LG, don't think they fall short on brand recognition either. Hopefully anything that needs steckel's blessing re the divorce with stm gets sorted too. And as Xenon said, a gentle reminder on who holds the patents on bulk production of qd is a good use of his time. Need to get on with appointing a ceo who will follow up on that issue.

I like that the title of his talk just sounds likes an advert for Nanoco. But hope he's over there for a a few scheduled meetings too.

My guess (based entirely on a couple of linkedin 'likes') is Nano/Emberion go in direct pursuit of a small-scale short term opportunities unearthed through the STM/Nano sample circulation. Emberion use 200mm wafer so just dots from Nano. I doutbt Quantum (advanced) Solutions are still supplying dots to Emberion (9 PhDs, 25 patents, no money).

In unrelated nothing much happening news why would Liam care that Emberion has a new ceo. Emberion smaller than nano but does produce qd swir image sensors.

I'd go with cost if we're talking about sensor material cos there is nothing wrong with display dots, obviosuly.

Steckel said in one of his recent essays that the future cos of cost was metre sq rolls of qf with an ai logic chip. So presumably they are growing dots to individual pieces of qf for each wafer then spin coating, sounds the slow section in a mass production line.

Good post. Guess it's going to depend on how small the small scale opportunity is, how short term and whether it is meaningful in terms of defraying cash burn. Still makes me wonder how much of a near miss plessey was or whether they got equal or better results from going all led on colours.

...and that they couldn't find a big enough customer to justify that cost. A common problem it seems.

Someone recently listed the many other companies that Nano had tried to link up which have apparently not yielded anything. The Plessey (semiconductors) one is interesting in that is microled for av and wearables. And seemed a winner given they were quoting 87% reduction in pixel size like they had completed trials.

Plessey is still a tiny but growing company, last published accounts had t/o up to 56m in fy 2023 with op profit just under 10m. Still sinking a lot of cash into research and most of that income is coming from outside the uk. Would be nice if nano could explain now and again why things don't work out, especially as this is a market they say they are still doing minor stuff in. My guess would be neither company was going to find the cash to scale up for production cost of including red & green dots into plessey's blue LED wafer.

I thought it was cable car completing a sale as think they held 3.1 but no rns.
