I am a self confessed luddite.
When mobile phones first came in I was a determined sceptic and laughed at their bulkiness poor reception and innefficiency. Later when i had eventually been converted and the smart phone movement was in its infancy I laughed at the notion that a phone should be turned into a mini computer. Looking back I comfort myself with the quote from Thomas Watson president of IBM till 1956 who said in 1958 that he thought there was maybe "a world market for five computers".
I would have giggled at the need to have a person walking with a flag in front of my horseless carriage.
I would have scoffed at the sound quality of the transistor radio compared to my state of the art console in my living room.
I would have ignored Netflix with its slow service and niche market.
I would have agreed with Kodak in the 1970's when they rejected their own engineers invention of filmless photography.
In my defence all these disruptive innovations were initially inferior in quality to the established market leaders they eventually replaced.
In an out of character move I have fully embraced the potential of our own disruptive technology, the humble Affimer.
The difference with the affimer is that even prior to it coming to market it is potentially immediately better than what it seeks to replace.
It will be very interesting to see how the big players react.
Two of their usual strategies are no longer open to them.
They will no longer be able to ignore affimers.
Neither will they be able to incorporate affimers into their own technological portfolio (unless they buy AVACTA).
What an intriguing exciting compelling and potentially lucrative story!
