I see from the BBC that the British Heart Foundation are funding a trial to see whether the above drug can combat blod clots in Covid patients.
Looking at its history its inventor was granted a Nobel Prize in 2012. It then failed in a trial in 2016 after which the British Heart Foundation has taken an interest in it (more than its done re fruitflow as far as I can see)

One prominent deal in 2017 was when Gilead bought Kite Pharma for almost 12 billion dollars.
At the time Kite was loss making and had debt of six hundred million Pounds.
What it also had was a pipeline of early stage CAR-T cell therapies which treat cancer. These involve engineering patients immune cells to attack their cancers (including the engineering of synthetic antibodies). I'm not a medic or a scientist and I therefor make fairly blunt edged and perhaps mistaken evaluations of the articles I read but I don't think the aims of Kites Pipeline were a million miles away from one(just one) of AVACTA's aims. Furthermore Kites pipeline (like all current cancer treatments) could have potentially severe side effects.

I was ereading an article entitled "Biotech Valuation idiosyncracies and Best Practices" by Raphael Rottgen a partner in a crypto hedge fund .
According to him there are over 150 companies in the Nasdaq Biotech index. Taken together they represent 250 billion dollars in market capitalisation. Almost 80% of them have no earnings. A companies pipeline often justifies its valuation.
In the above context just consider what an enviable position our company could be in going in to tackle cancer with its burgeoning bank balance fueled by the placement and with who knows how much Covid profits added thereto.

I see that two of the four short listed companies for the "Breakthrough of the Year" Award are Novacyt who we know about and Genmab.
Genmab recently signed a collaboration agreement with AbbVie whereby they will jointly develop and commercialize 3 bispecific antibodies (the poor relations of affimers) that can target surface proteins found in cancer cells with 1 side while the other side attracts tumour hungry immune cells.
This will ring bells for those concentrating on yesterdays presentations.
Up to 3.9 billion dollars is payable by AbbVie in terms of this arrangement to Genmab.
It seems to me that during the next year AVACTA and their affimers may supersede both breakthroughs.

Hard to fault company strategy at the moment.
The placing happens. Folks questioned it. No one with any credibility does now.
The presentations yesterday.
The first one. Alistair always seemed to be making a conscious effort to shift folks focus from covid to cancer.
The second one. He realises that we need to know that covid tests very much on track to bring in the expected millions to satisfy the short termers.
Summary. Covid tests while astonishing exciting lucrative and potentially groundbreaking are only a means to an end. They are the hoers d'ouvre prior to the main courses

I have it noted that he said that they were making very good progress in developing both the covid tests.
Ref Cytiva he has "a high level of confidence" that by the end of June there will be prototypes to test with "word unclear" samples and patient samples. They will then be transferred to manufacturers who will provide validation batches.
He said this sort of test development can normally take a year but they are speeding things up with work streams running in parallel which could lead to issues if they weren't careful. That last bit is me paraphrasing. I got the impression that he was saying this to address the expectations of some who may have thought that the prototype would be available by now.

I see that almost a third of Pakistani MP's have tested positive.
It's not all bad news though. In Tanzania according to their leader they have defeated Corona by the power of prayer (and you'll go to jail if you say otherwise)

Those "Flippers" who have sold their shares in anticipation of getting their new shares have all of course now done so.
More importantly in my view those shareholders who were scared of the above now realise they don't have to be.
The primary effect of the placing relative to the shareprice is therefor over.
We are left with a body of shareholders who will eventually sell for all the normal reasons including you and I and a body of potential shareholders who will for the usual reasons buy in.

Think about it. If its stressful for you just to buy and hold do you really need to add to your stress.
AVACTA is no ordinary AIM share.
Many AIM shares are lifestyle companies. So called because for for all their good intentions all they achieve year by year is paying their directors. Sometimes their stories are very seductive.
Others are mining companies years away from mining anything
Or oil companies years away from producing anything
Or bio techs years away from commercialising anything.
If you are cute you can take advantage of a spike in the event of the grant of a license or a successful drill or an impressive scientific advance. But that will be the exception rather than the rule.
Some of the AIM darlings have Boards of Directors who are proud if their company has preserved its capital value over a period of years even if the shares are worth a tenth of what they were. Folk like that pay lip service to shareholders and the law (or lack of it) is on their side.
Good shares on AIM are like gold dust. When you find one don't take it for granted.
I think this is a good share. I still find it helpful to acknowledge out of the white hot heat of the trading day that there will certainly be times during the coming months when I will feel disappointed at the share price (albeit hopefully interspersed with times of elation). I am determined to take the bad with the good.
To take up one theme of lazypunters excellent earlier post my theory is that most of us AIM punters have a little bit of the gambler in us. We would get bored with a portfolio full of blue chips.
My philosophy with AVACTA is that just holding onto my shares here is going to give me enough of a buzz over the next few months without needing to push the boat out further by trading on AIM.

The reasonable expectation was that had the motions in the EGM been passed another horrendous placing at an even more ridiculous price than before and further selling (short or otherwise) from the places would have been inevitable.
Ref your claim that funding will now be more expensive what could be worse than the above.
I would observe that if KIBO are requiring funding as desperately as I assume they do or will after paying the directors salaries they may have a hard time persuading anyone at all to lend to them if a special resolution would be required to create the appropriate conditions for that.
In that case they may have two options
Talk to the retail shareholders and address their many grievances or go into administration to allow the assets to be sold.

by the way Adam judging by your account my journey has big similarities to yours.

Suggestions for not loosing money
1. Don't trade (as opposed to invest) unless you want to have a bit of fun with money you can afford to loose. A minority (often well equipped professionals) will make money this way. Unless you are more savvy than me you probably won't or if you do for a while the casino will catch up with you eventually.
2.Don't invest either unless you have taken the time to FULLY research (even if it takes weeks). It's not wrong to take account of whats said on bulletin boards but often the most valuable test for you will be whats written about your proposed share on OTHER boards.
