Can't see Russia ceasing fire in Ukraine any time soon. There might be a pause if winter is snowy, but spring will see a return to hostility. Pootin has too much gas, wheat, pride and power at stake. He's also rumoured to be lining up a slice of North Kazakhstan. It's going to rumble on for years, like Afgh*nistan or Syr*a.

The TP11 Pacific trade bloc is nearly as big as the EU bloc, and will soon be 2 x bigger when the UK joins and the US rejoins.

The TP11 is purely an economic bloc. There are no ambitions for the UK to be run from Tokyo or Sydney.

Always lots of debate on here about "why" the UK economy is among the poorest in the developed world... Well, take a look at CINE, for a case study and example.

CINE barely made £100m of profit in 2016, but thought it was somehow sensible to loadup and gorge on £5b of debt to buy thousands and thousands of cinemas in North America between 2017 and 2019 -- just as home streaming, fast home broadband, and big home TVs took off worldwide. Five years later, the firm is toast. A stupid company run by stupid people with stupid egos. See Debenhams, House of Fraser, and many other stupid UK examples in recent years :-(

At the end of the day, Left or Right, the UK is just about the most miserable country on all of planet Earth. We revel in misery, hysteria, and artificial panic. Last week we were all going to boil to death in the sunshine, this week we are going to drown in a thunderstorm flood, and next week we will freeze to death as leccy bills hit £1 million a day. We love the misery and moaning. We are addicted to it.

It's about perception.

Clinton challenges the 2016 election result, and it's democracy to stop (no evidence) Russian interference... Trump challenges the 2020 election result, and it's (no charges) an attempted coup... Clinton puts govt property in her private email, and it's an innocent oversight... Trump puts govt property in his private house, and it's a guilty crime.

Trump just doesn't have the hard-Left US media on his side.

Trump oversaw a strong economy, a strong stockmarket, and started zero new wars. Biden is mired in recession, inflation, and brought the world to the brink of thermonuclear war with Russia. Clinton also challenged the 2016 US election result, tried to change it, put thousands of govt emails in her private account, and was publicly questioning the 2016 result right up to 2020, a half-decade later. Trump will be back in 2024.

Looks like the UK and US markets are taking a breather after the recent 10-20% runup.

US inflation has peaked and is already plummeting today in Q3 2022. For example, US petrol pump prices have collapsed 10-15% this month. It is only the slow UK who are lagging, and probably won't see peak inflation until Q4 2022.

Campaigning for the 2024 UK election will begin as early as next summer 2023.

Westminster (and Washington) are the new Hollywood. You can expect the preening, jockeying and campaigning on TV, social media and press for 2024 to start cranking up in just 9-12 months from now...

Don't panic... The UK state is clearly going to step in and pay everyone's electricity / gas bill. Most households today in Q3 can already claim £500-2500 of free cash. There will be more free cash to come in Q4. There is a UK election on the way in a year or so ;-)

As many have stated before, Britain's long-term growth rate (half-century) actually fell by half, after entering the EEC / EU. Growth went down. Not up.

Any sign of UK unemployment or bad debts going up (due to inflation) and bank shares will tank.

Any sign of UK bank profits going up (due to inflation) and the red Tories will slam them with a windfall tax and bank shares will tank.

The 10% inflation number feels low. Was living the dream in Lidl and Aldi last week. Noticed the price of a pizza had shot up +15% since July, while some rice cracker things were up about +40% since June.
