"Al is some kind of nefarious con artist"
In my opionion, Al is certainly not a con artist. I think everything he has done has been done in good faith. But, could he be accused of:
“Lacking commercial awareness” – not a crime and understandable given lack of experience. Although, you could argue that 'Ruane' was a master-stroke. Should he have recognised this weakness / shortcoming in himself and perhaps strengthened the Avacta team in this department? Is our sales director up to the job?
“Having a slightly enlarged ego” – Perhaps, hence relentless pursuit of the ‘perfect / exquisite’ test, when something slightly less magnificent would have sufficed.
“Arrogant” – showed arrogance when dismissing out of hand pi’s cries of ‘not fair’, when placing was done, even though he’d suggested ‘fully funded’ until 2021. Also, I though it was a bit arrogant the way he glided over ‘saliva’ in the last presentation (as if it had never existed) and straight into ‘swab’ talk.
“Naïve” – Have we been led down the garden path by Cytiva? Are we the Abbingdon bridesmaid…all gone quiet on that front?
“Opportunistic” – Dare I mention the house?
He was looking a bit crestfallen during the last presentation. No more talk of stack ‘em high, zillions of tests. However, I suspect he’s learnt a lot over the last six months and I think I am prepared to give him the benefit of doubt. And, the poor guy looks absolutely knackered! So, maybe we should cut him some slack. Still think we’ll make it to the finish line, all be it with a few of clipped hurdles along the way.
