Nice to see the share price going up...but, and there is always a "but" of course, not quite cause for celebration yet. There is the CWU ballot result to contend with first, result to be announced this coming Tuesday...it will not make happy hearing for shareholders. I would encourage all of you to login to Facebook and view the latest video update with National Officer (CWU) Davie Robertson talking about the latest mediation talks between the union and RMG concerning Parcel Force...once again -- not very encouraging to say the least. Buy in at todays prices at your peril!!

Anyway, Pussy Galore, with thirty years in the business would you kindly like to hazard a rough guess, using of course you in-depth knowledge and firsthand experience of the CWU, of what the likely percentage of a "yes" vote will be? I presume we can all agree it is going to be a yes vote...hmmmm?

Fruitster...it matters not in the slightest way about the actual true membership figures of the CWU. There is going to be a huge yes vote by the greater majority of the posties...and that is all it takes. Rico Back has less than four weeks to save this business from complete devastation...and we therefore don't have to wait very long to find out if there is any validity to my statement do we? Four short weeks, Fruitster...that is the only time he has got left. Period!!!

I would personally be surprised if there was'nt at least a 90% return of all ballot papers -- and at least a 90% "yes" vote in favour of industrial action...and I would say that is a rather conservative estimate in all fairness. However, much more importantly, ask yourselves this question: even on a much lower return of say 75% in favour of industrial action...how many of those other 25% either not in the union, not returning papers, spoiling their vote, or just plain voting no, would then cross the picket lines? Answer -- not many!! Whichever way you care to slice it a huge overwhelming majority are going to vote -- yes!! The moral high ground? That matters not a jot! It certainly won't change the fact that nearly every employee, in varying degrees, would be out on strike one way or another. And then that, as they say -- would be that!! For both sides I might also add.

This is the way I see it Mrd5432: the "Four Pillars Agreement" is full of ambiguity...especially regarding the reduction in working hours over the next couple of years to bring it from the present 38 hours a week to a projected 35 hours a week...Rico Back is very aware of all this of course. For the CWU this reduction in the working week down to 35 hours is vital in maintaining the jobs of the existing workforce as more automation comes into the business...obviously the more you automate any shop floor the less employees you need -- that is an immutable fact! And this reduction of one hour, due this very month, is just one part of the overall disagreements of the two parties; this reduction of another hour off the working week is, as far as I am aware, a separate grievance...I am not sure if it is actually being discussed at the present ongoing mediation to be quite honest. Question is: how do you sort even this one grievance? If it is a legally binding agreement why not then put it before a judge? Because this is not something quite straightforward like a border dispute between two neighbours...it is highly subjective and involves the way you interpret it. How on earth could a high-court judge sort all that out? Never mind two opposing parties who view it quite separately from the other. And this is just one facet of a highly complex disagreement...never mind the real threat and great fear the union feel over the prospect of the company being, effectively, broken up. Conclusion -- a real mess!!!

Errrr no, Mrd5432. The s.p is falling because over a hundred thousand employees might very well, soon, in the near future, be out on strike.

In my opinion, Mrd5432, if an agreement can be reached, and if the financial results for the half-year (21st November) are averagely decent, then the s.p could very quickly return to £2.40...given a good Christmas also, and I would say you might not be to far off with your £2.70 sometime early in the New Year.

No idea what the s.p would end up as, falkland...but, admittedly, a lot lower than it is now. Mind you I did say, yesterday, that anyone buying at these prices was just a complete balloon. Bet that did'nt stop some people here on this board buying again this morning though. Some just don't learn!!

I don't understand why it is you people on here are not taking "Mad's" comments seriously? He is not exaggerating when he says that they will fight to the death. If this turns into an "all-out-strike", and by that I mean all out at the same time...not each individual shift once a week (still devastating) -- then this industry will be totally wreaked!! Yes -- thousands will lose their jobs overnight...but if Rico gets all his own way then they are looking at thousands of job losses anyway. What would each one of you do in all honesty if you knew for certain it was your job in the firing line? How would you have voted? If Royal Mail refuse to meet the union at least halfway on this it will not be a "Five Year Plan" you are looking at...no it will take a lot, lot longer than that -- a lot longer!!
