Regarding shorting this stock...quite risky in my opinion. Trading it on a day to day basis? Yes, fair enough, I will go with that...but betting big on the back of industrial action? Risky in my view. Royal Mail and the CWU have this little pantomime every other Christmas...although granted not usually anywhere near serious as this. They work on one immutable truth: MAD -- mutually assured destruction! The consequences of a full blown strike taking place are just too horrible to contemplate. If pushed I would have to come down on the side of some sort of compromise. But herein lies the problem: this struggle, this constant back and forthing looks set to happen every year/every other year for a long time to come. Will it ever be finally resolved? Who knows. But, if not, it will forever be a dragging anchor on this company's fortunes that is for sure.

Not a shorter, Tigerchamp...never shorted a stock in my life. No bonus prize there for you. Used to work as an Angard worker, then on a (Royal Mail) STC for two years; left shortly after receiving a full-time contract...was'nt for me. If I had been a younger man I would have continued with the job...the pay and everything that goes with it is extremely generous. Work for Amazon now. Thinking on...thats an awful lots of voting forms for one aging postie to carry. Perhaps the CWU could take Royal Mail up on their really good suggestion of postponing any possible industrial action till after Christmas? After all...we don't want Wolvesposty blotting his perfect sick-absence record by going off with a bad back do we.

What strategy is that then, Fruitster? To make tens of thousands of people redundant to satisfy the shareholders like you and me? I hold over 6000 shares in Royal Mail (a drop in the ocean to what you and many others hold) and of course I want it desperately to succeed. But at the cost of tens of thousands of jobs? No! It is quite simple, Fruitster. He is telling Royal Mail that if they intend to make thousands, tens of thousands actually, of posties redundant in a very short time, and all the evidence is there to support that claim, then they, the union and the posties they support, will take Royal Mail down with them. In Mr Pullinger own words: "you will probably win, Royal Mail -- but we will be the best second you ever saw!!! Is this spiteful? Is this childish? Is this a perfectly natural reaction by any group of persons who fear their livelihood and standard of living is about to be flushed, forever, down the pan?
