In 21' all companies got an extension in UK and I am sure there were many that used it too.

There is so much currently going on with the company a.t.m. that I imagine that the c.f.o. is working v hard.

I currently see very little the bod doing wrong i.m.o. so will agree to disagree and leave it there..

As far as I know the Audit committee of UKEF meet quarterly. Whether they ratify all approvals etc at these meetings who knows but i'm thinking if your application misses out, it could be a good while to the next one? if that's even the way they operate.

I still can't fathom the thinking that for ages apart from Finance, most talk has been about trying to win contracts etc. and when what seems to be a possible opportunity to go for a £300m + contract that its somehow not viable. How are the company going to get to 500m revenue if that's the case. If enough money is thrown at a problem,you can find solutions.

Its probably a bit daft for someone to build a rocket to go to Mars and even dafter for some people prepared to pay a fortune to get into it, but guess what it happens...

I sort of agree with both sides on this. but my heart rules my head and it would garner so much attention worldwide if built in Belfast compared to any other shipyard. At the end of the day it would be about potential profit. A major part of the cost would be fit out for this type of ship; and with MJM down the road, its going to be a hard one to turn down...

Guessing again on Northstar but on reflection, I cant see it being batteries. They can go direct to Echandia anyway. Just to add, Fincantiri laid off and I believe sold two of the 5 VARD yards in 2019 due to downturn. So perhaps they do not now have the yard capacity or workforce to build up again quickly to cope with a sudden increase in orders.maybe looking to sub out some fabrication?. VARD also picked up a 200m contract for a cable ship in dec23 along with Northstar

That's interesting with North Star. Hard to find who maintains all these vessels currently.

It would be especially interesting if H & W were able to do something with batteries on the

smaller vessels, it would certainly be beneficial for both parties regarding green credentials.

I know very little about the inner workings of the EDG UKEF but is the Searose not linked to Fossil Fuel,can it qualify? Does the M55 get to 20% of the Turnover in the last financial year? again I am not sure apart from the fact that they look at each Applicant on their own merit. Company does "not" have to be profitable either for them to award...

regarding working capital -Is it short term or possibly 5 year working capital and the same with short term debt. what are the time periods..

We are stuck at this rate for the foreseeable... i.m.o. there seems to be a 5% differential between where we are at and possible UKEF Rate.

However, I cannot recall or find any record of him visiting H & W but I stand to be corrected on that, and if he was to drop in then I may change my opinion.

MP Kevan Jones, a former Defence Minister who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Shipbuilding, today tabled a Commons early day motion calling for UK yards to be given the deal.

It “contends that UK warships should be designed, built and maintained in UK shipyards in order to strengthen sovereign defence capability and ensure national security considerations are met”.

It “calls on the Government to support UK shipyards and UK defence supply chains by awarding the Fleet Solid Support ship contract to Team UK”.

Mr Jones told the Mirror: “MPs must consider whether it is prudent, during a cost-of-living crisis, to export thousands of well-paid, highly-skilled jobs.

“The Government talks about growth – this is one area where they could do something about it by supporting shipyards and other UK businesses.”

GMB head of policy Laurence Turner said: “Sending this order overseas would be a negligent act by a Government that's all at sea.

“Politicians of all stripes must back UK shipbuilding today or answer to their constituents.”
