I posted yesterday that what was announced at midnight was the opening of Bid window 5.

Yesterday wasn't about Bushveld being announced as a winner. That was never going to happen, the significance as has been noted extensively already is that multiple BESS and Renewables projects have been successful and the limit on generation has been lifted, both of which are obviously excellent news for Bushveld. One signifies the door opening for Eskom and the other for every other entity that is sick of load-sheddinf and wants to generate their own power.

What do you think that means for a home grown VRFB supply chain?

It was definitely no licence required for self-generation at any level. Gwede actually said that if you wanted to set up a 1000mw power station you could. A license is only needed to connect to the grid and trade surplus energy with Eskom.

There is an irony seeing FAR rising into close at levels around 40% of our MC whilst we are watching the fruition of a multi-year strategy that is unlocking VRFB in South Africa, whilst expanding to 20x their production and are closing with a dip.

If out of 3 bidders, none are using flow batteries, it would be an absolutely epic fail by SA.

Just think of all the mines (and endless numbers of other commercial businesses) who will be looking at our minigrid project, (which I am now expecting will be scaled up), and 25 year lifespan, rock solid flow batteries w/solar, and thinking this could be an end to load shedding for our business forever.

South Africa will inevitably have to raise the 10mw threshold again once all these mini-power stations exist.

So still to have VRFB's role confirmed but it seems pretty likely they will be given the above and the requirement for local content.

It's the RFP for 2600 MW of renewables for Bid window 5 that will be released midnight today.

Jonny, that is correct. As I mentioned, Bushveld are not a direct bidder in this tender. They are potentially a supporting act. FB has shared the list that should clarify this to anyone.

The interest really is in what form of storage is involved as Setcentric also mentioned and seeing SA really act decisively in a way that will support the trajectory of Bushveld and all of the things Fortune has been saying in recent interviews.

This news isn't left field and it isn't a one-shot deal.

This is just the beginning of an iterative Eskom story, and is not the main event for Bushveld. It is very important that people understand that and don't get their hopes up that Bushveld will be listed as an individual winner. Bushveld's place in this particular tender will be part of supporting other bidders.

Personally I do think Bushveld should have done some expectation management themselves around all of these tender processes, instead of ignoring any discussion around their involvement. But that is how they have chosen to play the early part of this year, with very little communication barring the odd interview and we are where we are.

Excitingly we should finally start to see definitively how we are participating and with who as results are revealed over the coming weeks. The business will not have a reason to keep everything under lock and key.

I am like Clark, excited but realistic. The start of the reveals for the Eskom tenders has been a long time coming and it should be arriving in a context of huge excitement and anticipation, but we have also had two difficult years as shareholders and a pretty poor start to 2021 SP-wise so there is inevitably some wariness and it would be remiss not to acknowledge it. This is the BoD's chance to finally start to rebuild the excitement and actually create some tangible buzz around their business. It says a lot about how the business have managed market sentiment that there are only 13 posts so far on a day that should be buzzing.

Let's see if they actually step up and take that chance. Because I for one want to see some serious financial progress with my investment alongside the commercial progress rather than this continuing current underperformance and lack of action to improve it.
