Dan, I think maybe it's you that's confused, for anyone thinking this will drop a lot more than the dividend then they would make more profit from selling at the highest price usually the day before exdiv and buy back at a lower price if they wished to do so, but i'm sure you know that ? i'm holding myself with the hope this will get to 90p eventually

It might drop a lot more than 4p, this will be a bit of a confidence test, will there be a lot selling off before exdiv knowing that this is the last full div before it's cut in half, or will investors have enough confidence about a rising sp to hold on !

Very well put Dan, the share price increased because of better than expected results, and next year the dividends will be cut in half, also there will be less dividends in circulation for them to pay out on, so hopefully will result in another increase in profits and another increase in the share price, if not we are stuffed basically, because we will be getting less back in dividends, so depending on an increased share price , also the 3 merge if it happens will help

Sean, as we all know , the markets hate uncertainty, i'm holding back cash from all my dividend shares at the moment apart from mng, will be reinvesting where i can see the best value/mng/aviv/lgen or psn i only add if i can reduce my average otherwise the funds get it, some wobbly times ahead, but if interest rates start dropping as predicted where will that take us, not easy is it ?

Too much scaremongering and armchair politician crap going on at the moment guys, just stay focused on the reasons you invested here in the first place,one of the best dividend payers and a good chance of an increasing share price

It would be a strange world if we were all the same guys, he's not doing any harm Imo, i don't know what your all making such a fuss about it, let's just hope we can hit that 80p very soon then move upwards, it's most definitely not a share for the impatient

Hi Strictly, you are obviously an experienced investor who has had good success from investing and if what your doing is working that's all that matters, so best of luck to you, I expect you’ve come across some rotten apples on your journey though like the majority of us, too many times though you come across some angry posters on some of these boards, and sometimes it's because of over investing in a single share that's going badly for them, I suspect you are investing with money you can afford to lose and would not be too concerned if one of yours shares went badly, for anyone who’s new to investing or needs to be more cautious I have posted what I consider a safer option, for wiw I’m also invested in some of the shares that you are invested in and good choice I think, and i regard lgen and aviva as my safest options, I’m definitely no expert but just hoping that in time I can get better by learning from more experienced investors like yourself

Hi, Finley1, i'm afraid nothing is guaranteed in this world and most definitely not in the stock market, i currently have a 50/50 split between international funds and UK dividend shares, have i diversified enough to protect my investments? i really don't know only time will tell how it all works out, everyone has their own ideas, some buy and hold others sell before exdiv and take profits, but best of luck to you all whatever your strategy, we are all taking a chance hoping we can get a better return than we would get in a savings account

Strictly, even using your calculations it's still less than the total return from a basic international fund, most of my funds have returned around 80% in the last 5 years, i'm not suggesting anyone sells up their shares, but i would recommend to anyone to add some funds into their portfolio, as well as some good divi shares like lgen/aviva/mng/psn etc.

Hi Dan, yes i will join you with 80p for next Friday(cheers roofer) I think we are all a bit disappointed to see this dropping back again, I've noticed most of my shares and international funds have all been dropping back over the last week, strangely though the only one that's continuing to rise is Persimmon homes, so maybe there are good expectations for house buyers/builders perhaps, anyway it looks like we will have to ride the storms and turbulence for a bit longer, hopefully a drop in interest rates may give things a bit of a boost, fingers crossed we can move a bit closer to 80p

Zac, i'm not condemning anyone for it, just saying the big earners will probably vote for the party they think will tax them the least, whether that's the best thing for the country is another argument, personally i have worked hard and paid taxes all my life, not everyone's the same, not everyone wants to work

It's possible of course, but i think the majority will be happy to take that risk as they want change, time will tell of course, you can't blame the election for Vodafone's falling share price though, they have their own problems
