Garonne, good luck to you, Vodafone has under performed for years, look for a share with a progressive dividend or if you are looking for growth maybe look at some us tech funds, just my opinion of course I'm sure there will be lots that disagree

Hello Strictly, Investing all of your money in one sector and also all UK based is ok and can be rewarding, that is until it's not ok ? but i guess you already know the risks and of course your decision, it seems like you have been lucky so far, so i hope that luck continues for you, it's not something i would be comfortable with myself, but we are all different

Just a thought guys, keep your best performing shares but maybe think about adding a couple of low cost trackers to your portfolio, such as legal & general international index and or legal & general global technology which will leave you less exposed to the UK and a very good chance they will once again outperform UK shares over the next 5 years. just my opinion of course and not advice, time will tell how things work out

Good morning DC. I'm just an amateur invester trying to build and protect my sipp the best way i can. Maybe I'm a bit more cautious now I've retired, so for myself the addition of funds makes me feel less vulnerable, there are lots of people on these boards who are much more experienced than myself, so a great place for picking up tips, fwiw, I think lgen and mng are excellent shares for dividend income

Good evening DC, well it's only my opinion and i have nothing to back it up, so you could be right, only time will tell on that one, My other predicament is my portfolio consists of 40% international funds and 60% UK dividend shares, my funds returned a growth of around 80% over the last 5 years up until January 2025 when they dropped back by around 30%, maybe that was a period when investors were pulling out of US tech stocks and investing in UK under valued shares, the US tech funds seems to be reversing as my they have now recovered that 30% drop, so again only time will tell which will provide the best total returns over the next 5 years, it's a bit of a mixed bag with my UK shares, the insurers aviva/lgen/mng/phnx /ukw, have all made good gains so far, but my two house builders shares Wimpey and Persimmon are struggling and dropping back

Fingers crossed though that we will all keep making gains and the dividends keep flowing

TR61, I get where your coming from every time it get's into profit it drops down again, as long as the dividend is safe i will be happy to hold, this is the only good paying dividend share on my list that seems to be under valued at the moment with a good entry or adding price, so i added some more

Hello Garonne, yes i am very pleased with the way this is rising lately, of course with hindsight i would not have sold 20% off too early when it got into the 80s, at least i can be honest about it unlike some others who seem to be wishing this down because they sold too early, I still have the other 80% left so hopefully it will keep going up towards £1 and more, maybe the CEO and board of directors are not doing such a bad job after all ?, confidence seems to be growing with this share now

Sam, well they are not just shares, they are legal & general shares ?

If there's more demand for buying than selling, then the price goes up to entice more to sell to free up shares for the byers

Tony, price drop might be good for buyers, but i would have thought the house builders would want to sell their new builds for as much as possible

Hello dc, do you not think the likes of mng/lgen and other insurers are too high a price for buying in at the moment, I know the dividend yield is still high, but if the share price drops down in the autumn you might lose the benefit of the dividends, just asking opinios they may well keep growing, its just that the UK seems to be in a bit of a financial mess

Hello Rupans, I would need £4 to get 50% back Ouch, i only blame myself for this, as i said before i was totally new to investing back in 2014 and after averaging down on one occasion i gave up on this one and put it down as a loss, Of course i could have kept trading it averaging down etc, but i decided to just forget it and invest my money elsewhere in dividend paying stocks and i think that was the right decision for myself, only just starting to show any interest in this again, so any gains now will just be a bonus, great to see it finally making a recovery again

Hello Petera007, just been reading your post, I thought i was the only long suffering investor left here, this was was one of my first investments in the stock market back around 2014, and without any doubt the worst one i ever made, i even averaged down on one occasion thinking it might turn around, then i just gave up on it, nice to see it making gains again though, if i could get 50% back i would be happy, i think i have been a more cautious investor after this lesson in how easy it can be to lose money on the stock market, the old saying is it's not about how much you can afford to invest, but how much you can afford to lose, thankfully it was only about 5% of my portfolio but it still hurts

Well best of luck Gary, I'm sure it will come back good at some time , this is a good entry price IMO, mine is 1.21 just a bit annoyed that i was in profit the other day and it was looking like it was heading higher

now it's been pushed down a bit, will keep holding here and taking the dividend until we see a recovery

Looks like we have reached our upper limit here now, starting to drop back a bit lately, but we still have some good dividends to look forward too

Causal, I hope your right, will just sit tight here, collect the dividends and hope the sp will improve in the not to distant future, tw and psn are very volatile shares

Spitfire44, how would cutting the cost of new homes work then ? when the cost of materials and labour costs have already put a big squeeze on builders profit margins, I think our best chance of seeing these shares rise would be interest cuts to make mortgages more affordable

My average here is £1.21 maybe i should have sold up when i was in profit, my concern is whether the dividends will be sustained
