RE: 120 home treatments.13 Jun 2020 19:15
The more I studies read the more I become convinced that it'll be surprising if SNG001 doesn't work.
Essentially I think the caveats will be:
- It's not going to be a magic cure for the virus at all stages (COVID or otherwise) and isn't supposed to be
- It's probably not going to help as much once the damage is done (later stage COVID)
- It's probably not going to make much difference to healthy individuals who produce, and continue to produce, enough of it
Where I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work is:
- In early/mid-stage COVID (or other virus)
- In individuals with various underlying problems
- Other individuals who might be healthy but the immune response doesn't cope well enough and ends up causing more problems (Cytokine Storm)
Existing combination studies have already shown (triple method ones for example) that the interferon patients fared better. To quote The Lancet: "This significant difference was sustained in a subgroup analysis of patients who were enrolled within less than 7 days of symptom onset (52 patients in the combination group, who received interferon beta-1b, vs 24 in the control group) but not in the subgroup of patients enrolled later than 7 days from symptom onset (34 patients in the combination group, who only received lopinavir–ritonavir and ribavirin, vs 17 in the control group)."
Therefore, Synairgen, armed with the knowledge (that didn't exist in older studies) that corticosteroids are a likely interaction (often used to treat respiratory problems) and ability to confirm actual virus presence rather than just symptoms (another flaw in older studies). They should have a much better chance of showing impact than ever before.
It would be a lot weirder, if delivery of interferon beta, direct to the area of the body that needs it, didn't help those people who don't have enough of it, to help the body fight off viruses safely, rather than spiralling out of control!
