RE: Energy Storage Europe9 Mar 2019 15:46
Alfa there are few questions that would be interesting to have feedback on:
1. Do existing manufactures think it will be possible to increase energy density in a VRFB, so that for a given size they will be able to develop more compact units, reducing the footprint of large grid ESS systems?
2. For domestic home and small factory units, do manufacturers see this as a large potential market to store solar energy and lower cost energy from off-peak as well as power back up using VRFB because of the elimination of thermal runaway?
3. What limits the life to 20 years and can this be extended or is it that we just actually don't know the total life of a VRFB system as they have not been around long enough?
4. Where do the current manufacturers currently get their vanadium electrolyte from and do they think that leasing from the electrolyte manufactures will be the future?
5. Do they think that the electricity suppliers and the distribution grids are fully aware of the advantages of Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries and the benefits they can bring to load leveling through the day?
6. How are the large manufacturers bringing the VRFB in front of the project managers to open their minds to the new technology and ensure that VRFB are implemented?
7. Do they see the largest potential in developing markets or in the transformation of the traditional grid markets in industrial nations around the globe?
8. How many MWh's of ESS do they expect the market to take in the years ahead and how big a percentage do they think that VRFB will take on projects compared to the existing Lithium Ion projects?
9. Do they see that the future of Lithium Ion is just for the portable market, including devices, tools, EV's and small home units and then VRFB taking over all future scaled renewable energy projects?
10. How big do they see this market?
That is 10 questions that just rolled off my head very quickly without thinking too much, but they cover a lot of points. We have from the Bushveld Energy 101 Presentation a lot of information, but it would be very interesting to get the information from others.
One other question would be how will these manufacturers work together to awaken the Global Media to the start actually talking about this technology which will in the end lobby the decision makers to see this as a technology which should be the no 1 choice for ESS.
Thanks for reaching out on this focal topic which will be very important research to understand how others see this market which has the potential to turn Bushveld energy into a very large company supplying VRFB in Africa.
The thought drivers that will be awakened, with the answers to these questions will drive the future and make Bushveld Minerals one of the most important Vanadium Miners and Suppliers in the world as we sit on the worlds largest high-quality reserves!
Cheers, RK
