JLR have been hit hard because of dieselgate and the ignorance of politicians. Most of their cars are premium sized and switching to petrol alternatives produce a sizeable consumption hit.
But their greatest problem has been political ignorance. New diesels produce less CO2 than their petrol equivalent and are up to 30% more economical, both enormous factors if you are trying to help the planet. But a primary focus has been on NO2, which adblue remedies extremely well. In addition and never mentioned, small particles from brakes and tyres, a lethal contributor from heavier battery cars, never gets a mention. Politicians have tried to blinkers us regarding the green credentials of battery cars, notwithstanding the extremely high pollution created just to put them in the showroom.

There is a huge arrogance amongst UK politicians, many of whom believe they know best in regard to the referendum and are deliberately ignoring their electorates' wishes. I've no doubt it will come back to haunt them as many, many voters will be determined to remove them at the first opportunity. That will be democracy in action just like it was some years ago at the European elections when UKIP trounced the Tories and Labour. Never underestimate the power of the ordinary voter.
Politics in the UK is in a mess and where ever you look and focus upon, we have weak leaders and very few people of substance. May is a poor negotiator but very resilient, to the point of not recognising when she is beaten. Corbyn is clueless and living in fantasy land but Labour MPs are too concerned about protecting their own backsides rather than challenging an unelectable Marxist.
If the Tories had put together a cross party committee of Labour and Tory MPs after the referendum to create a structure and set of proposals for the aftermath of article 50, then even if Labour walked away, it could be said that they had had the opportunity and preferred to walk away rather than contribute. As it is, over half of Labour constituencies are pro Brexit but their MPs are not listening and not contributing.
Politics are being played at a time when our country needs a statesman and reliable negotiator. We have neither unfortunately and there's no one waiting in the wings. The more the politicians fight and throw insults, the more the electorate of this country will show their exasperation at the next election.

You have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the EU and ask the question why these Eurocrats cannot grasp the reasons why an ever growing proportion of the European electorate are supporting National parties.
In recent years Greece and Italy have been put through the mangle for attempts to break the EU deficit rules. We now have a generation of young Greeks discarded like flotsam as a consequence of the EU not allowing fiscal rules to be broken.
And now along comes France with petit Micron, the saviour of the EU who has been brought back down to earth by the "yellow jackets" who have made him backtrack and climb down on his fuel tax proposals. In so doing he has substantially broken EU deficit rules, as indeed France has many times before, but accordingly he's been granted a "one time exemption" by the EU, a case of one rule for the few and another rule for many. Does the EU not comprehend why there is a rising tide of dissatisfaction. Apparently not.

Lloyds has supposedly been a very good buy for a long time but the share price has somewhat defied logic. Before the referendum result two and a half years ago it was 72p and afterwards dropped to 56p. Since then, with the continuing uncertainty, it's dropped further. Three years ago it traded at 91p and this was in the middle of the PPI scandal. Yes, it certainly defies logic. Is it a good time to buy? Who knows, irrespective of the broker recommendations and until Brexit is sorted out, this share will continue to confound.

Sizeable increase in PPI payments for October compared to the previous month. Does make me wonder how many bogus claims are being made and given compensation. Still, the irresponsible individuals on the BoDs that gave the green light to mass miss selling can rest easy that they'll never have their collars felt. Listening to the Commons debate yesterday made me wonder how anyone believes the politicians listen to the voters at all. Each party is following it's own course and further subdividing it's own definition of Brexit numerous ways. Some politicians believe a cross party approach to settling Brexit should have been put in place from the beginning, but having twelve or more different opinions would have been pointless and fruitless.
At the end of the day the majority of MPs are continuing to play games with their eyes on the prize of power and using every means possible to force a GE or second referendum. Even though 64% of parliamentary constituencies supported Brexit, a majority of MPs are still trying to find the means to escape from it.
But be warned of the danger lurking in the wings. The anti capitalist, anti US and pro Russian Corbyn who can't find it in himself to condemn Russia for the chemical attack on Salisbury, could still yet get his grubby Marxist fingers on the ultimate prize. How many people know his chief adviser is a Stalinist.
The Tory in fighting is taking the possible outcome of a Cornyn administration further in the realms of possibility every day. They have one element of the withdrawal proposal to get right but they prefer to squabble like dogs and further erode the remaining respect that the public have for them. Oh, to have a leader that would smash their heads together.

The moron in America was elected because the people were sick and tired of the self serving politicians who dominated American politics. They wanted someone who would focus on business and unfair trade barriers against US produce and they got what they voted for.

The growing resentment all over Europe towards EU leaders is shown by all age groups. I have a degree and it doesn't make me any better or cleverer than anyone else. Closer to home, what I see is an ever growing assembly of clueless individuals inhabiting our Parliament and masquerading under the pretext of representing the people. If you care to look at the opposition parties they seek one thing, to bring down the Government and take power. Amazingly, great swathes of the populace would support Corbyn and his crazy ideas. Yet in the referendum, 64% of parliamentary constituencies backed leaving the EU.

It's interesting to look back at a couple of pivotal moments that cumulatively have led to the referendum result in 2016.

Firstly, the greatest actor we've ever had as PM giving up a major part of the rebate that the UK had at this time. Part of his grandiose stage performances on the European and World stages.

A more recent PM that ran away when the referendum result went against him. He singularly failed to extract a single concession from the EU to make our membership any more palatable.

And yet, although these two events were highly relevant, what they both illustrate is the contempt the EU and in particular their appointed masters have for national identity amongst member states. They have consistently sought to impose more and more control over member nations and remove national identities. We seek to lay the blame at our own leaders, but the causes of the problems lie amongst the inflated egos in Brussels who live their lives in a bubble and only recognise their own ideology.

Any attempt in this country to reverse the referendum result or call a GE will result in the meltdown of the major parties and civil unrest such as we have never experienced. The Brexit lobby have been very quiet and behaved for two and a half years and have had to listen to the incessent clamour emanating from the Remainers. More and more they will be frustrated and angered if self serving politicians seek to block the referendum result. The last time I looked, 64% of the constituencies in the UK voted for Brexit.

Scenes in Paris recently have caused the Government to postpone fuel tax rises. Similar protests may now occur in Holland. People in the UK are remarkably placid until their backs are against the wall.

If the tactics of the opposition parties succeed and force a GE and seek to undermine the result of the referendum, then there will be no small amount of dissent shown by a huge swathe of the electorate against those politicians that sought to ignore the will of the people. Minority parties will flourish as a consequence of a protest vote and a future government will be a cabal of different interests that will never achieve anything. A stable government will be the last thing this country will experience.

jamestoo, that's the totally expected comment, so not very revealing. Possibly more revealing, how many of us haven't paid cash for some work or service carried out. I would suggest great swathes of the British public have found ways of breaking the law for their own advantage, particularly if it benefits what can be kept in their pockets.
Two of my friends used to have flats that they rented to students. Because a lot of the rent was paid in cash each month, about 25% was never divulged to the taxman. A nice little earner that helped to fund the mortgage on the next property they bought.
Someone else I knew ran a small business and one day bought a very expensive and rare vintage car and put It's restoration costs through the business. My view if a second referendum or general election was arranged to give a so called "peoples 'vote" is that huge swathes would completely ignore the major parties and give them the bloodiest nose possible. There would be no majority party and people would say this is what politicians have brought upon themselves.

We've had two and a half years of this and people want politicians to carry out the result of the referendum and get on with all other aspects of life that are being ignored in this country. We pay the politicians wages and pensions and perks and they conveniently forget this fact. Do what you are paid to do or the electorate will remove you from office, something the appointed EU mandarins cannot be threatened with. Partly why we are leaving.

I'm relieved some politicians have principle even though It's a hammer blow to the share price and the markets. I'm not overly critical of May although she has been an ineffectual leader, but this now highlights how the EU are trying to determine our future and applying conditions that no sane Government should accept. In this draft agreement they have the power to determine when we leave and It's time to now walk away and withdraw the divorce settlement and let them destroy themselves as other countries show their objections to their desire to control everyone.

The May elections in Europe will further undermine their long term intentions and perhaps realisation will begin to dawn that people don't like politicians trying to remove their identity.

Just over three years ago Lloyds said at their AGM that they had compensated 40% of the PPI policies sold. Now that would not add up if the leaflet you had just received had any semblance of truth.
But if I wanted to get peoples attention and get as many to make a claim as possible, a figure plucked out of the air would certainly have an impact.

Bear in mind that the day after the referendum the share price dropped from 72p to 56p and the effect of a Brexit deal could be to recover some of this lost ground. However, the EU is undoubtedly trying to prolong and punish the UK for having the temerity to leave this skewed institution and fails to recognise that more and people within the 27 are heartily sick of being dictated to by these unelected eurocrats. They cannot recognise that ordinary people drive the success of economies and that politicians who fail to acknowledge what the populace desire are unlikely to retain their plush offices and substantial perks. We all pay for these and politicians need to remind themselves from time to time that they are servants of the people and not our masters.

Lloyds ability to assess the cost of PPI is historically abysmal. They have been totally clueless or deliberately misleading. Since about three years ago when they said there would be no need for additional PPI provision they have set aside an additional, I believe, ten significant amounts. In my estimation there is a further minimum of £500 million commencing with year end or first quarter. The compensation doesn't stop in August 2019 - there are all the pipeline claims plus the backlog being dealt with by the Ombudsmen.
